Week Beginning 11th December

Nativity Performance!

Thank you to everyone who came along to see and support the children in their Nativity performance of ‘Everyone Loves a Baby!’ They all did an amazing job and I am so proud of each and every one of them.

Excited performers waiting for their transport!

This week during literacy, we decided it would be nice to write an invitation to invite someone to come along to our Nativity. We had to think about what information you need to include in an invitation. It would seem many parents and carers received their invitations as we had a very full audience!

We have also enjoyed designing our own Christmas cards to give to friends or family.

Thank you to all grown ups who supportedĀ  children in learning their lines and rehearsing for the Nativity at home! I hope you enjoyed it as much as they enjoyed performing! Have a wonderful weekend.

Week Beginning 4th December

This week we have been working hard on all of our literacy tasks! We are working hard to spell our spelling words and common words and sequencing the story of our reading books!

We have also been learning how to order things in alphabetical order. We had a challenge to arrange ourselves in alphabetical order by name.

During numeracy, we are continuing to look at using the part whole method to discover number bonds. We enjoy challenging ourselves to try using bigger numbers! We have also been learning about tens and units.

Today we were able to visit the present room and purchase a gift! Lots of lovely presents were chosen and maybe even some for grown ups at home!

Have a lovely weekend!

Week Beginning 27th November

We have had a busy week again in Primary 2!

During literacy we were learning about nouns. We know that they are a naming word.

We went on a noun hunt.

Look at all the nouns we found!

During PE we are still working hard at trying different fitness stations. We also make sure to stretch and warm up our muscles!

In numeracy we like to discuss the different mental strategies we can use to add and take away.

We have still been busy practising our nativity and are getting excited to share it.

Have a lovely weekend!

Week Beginning 20th Noven

This week we have been learning all about how to stay safe on the roads for Road Safety Week. We discussed how to safely cross the road by stopping, looking and listening and always staying with a grown up. We then braved the wind and rain to practise crossing the road at the cycle track.

We also discussed the importance of drivers sticking to the speed limit and created a poster to remind people about the dangers of speeding. The posters will be judged by the Junior Road Safety Officers and a winner from each stage will be selected.

In numeracy we have been learning to use the signs for ‘greater than’ and ‘less than’. We learned that the hungry crocodile always eats the bigger number!

We have also been enjoying practising our other skills in numeracy such as addition, subtraction and ordering numbers to 100.

You will be pleased to hear that following on from last week, P2B successfully captured the dragon that was on the loose! Miss Ross looked a little funny on Wednesday…

Have a lovely weekend!

Week Beginning 13th November

We have had an exciting week in primary 2! This week we received a letter telling us that there was a dragon on the loose around the school! We had to think of how to capture it. We then used our drama skills to create freeze frames and mimes to show others how to capture a dragon.

We made traps to capture the dragon.

In PE, we started our new block on fitness. We worked through some fitness stations. We were very tired at the end!

In numeracy we have enjoyed doing lots of activities to learn about numbers to 100. We like to play a game where you have to guess which numbers your partner has circled. You have to ask good questions to help you work it out.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Week Beginning 6th November

This week during numeracy we have been discussing different mental strategies that we can use to help us solve calculations. We have enjoyed using the number fans to share our answers.

Following on from Halloween, last week we started to draw pictures of a monster. This week we did some writing about our monsters focusing on adjectives. Then we used the iPads to use an app where we could record our voices to make our monsters talk! It was great fun and our monsters are super scary.

We have been learning about Diwali which will be celebrated this Sunday on the 12th November. We learned about why people celebrate Diwali. We then created our own Rangoli patterns.

Have a lovely weekend!

Week Beginning 30th October

In Primary 2 this week, we have been working so hard on our Daily Literacy Learning, a new programme for literacy. We have been working through our task cards independently which including reading and writing activities along with some fun games!

During our writing with Miss McLemon, we read our stories about Room on the Broom to each other! It was nice to hear someone else’s creative ideas.

As it has been Halloween, we have been learning how to draw a detailed picture of a monster! We thought about what to include and came up with great suggestions like spooky eyes and sharp claws! Our pictures are looking great even if a little frightening!

During numeracy we have been continuing to learn all about money. This week we were learning to make different totals using coins. We managed to match the coins to an item for sale!

Have a lovely weekend everyone, stay safe and enjoy the fireworks!

Week Beginning 23rd October

What a busy week back! It has been lovely to hear about P2’s holidays! We even wrote about our holiday during writing with Miss McLemon and produced some great recounts. Our school photographs were taken this week which I am sure you are all looking forward to seeing.

During Literacy we have been working hard at spelling our words with the ‘ck’ sound. We enjoy our active spelling stations and playing pairs to match the words to a picture. We have also been discussing the importance of reading and created butterflies with our favourite books on them. We chose butterflies because reading gives you wings!

During Numeracy we have been continuing to explore money. We have been learning about the value of each coin and using coins to make different totals. P2 can’t wait to help their grown ups with their shopping!

Due to school photographs, we had our PE in class this week. We enjoyed doing some yoga and dancing to move our bodies!

Have a lovely weekend, see you next week.

Week Beginning 9th October 2023

Well done and thank you for all your hard work this term P2! I hope you have a wonderful holiday and I’m looking forward to hearing all about it when we come back! Miss Ross

This week has been a busy week with lots going on in class!

This week in PE we have been continuing possession games. We enjoyed playing a game where we had to collect all of our team’s colour bean bag but we could steal another team’s and put it back in the middle too!

In numeracy we have been working so hard consolidating our addition skills. We have also started to look at money and the different coins and notes that we can use.

We have been working together to build our own castles! First, we carefully planned our designs and thought about what materials we would need. Then we worked in small groups to bring our designs to life! It has been so fun and the models look amazing!

Week Beginning 2nd October

Primary 2 have been busy this week celebrating Maths Week Scotland! Find out what we got up to below.

As part of Maths Week Scotland, we looked at how maths is used in many of the things we do every day. We created posters in groups to show we use maths everyday, when driving a car, when going to the shops and how people who do different jobs might use maths.

We also explored Maths in Motion through dance. We had to count to the beats of the music, think about what direction we were travelling in and think about what shapes our bodies were making. We also realised that our heart beats faster when we dance and wondered if we could record this!

During PE, we have been continuing to develop our skills through possession games. We worked at different stations to practise passing the ball, throwing bean bags into the correct hoop and rolling the ball through a small goal.
