This has been a brilliant Book Week for us!

We’ve really enjoyed talking about our reading targets, likes and dislikes as well as hearing visitors share some of their favourite books and stories. Special thanks to PC Trainer, Mrs Noble, P6 and our parent readers.

Some of us also shared our own short stories we had written in our Read, Write, Count books.

We have learned about equipment that weather watchers and meteorolgists use and we have started to record the weather each day.

We have been describing the weather with different technical vocabulary and we have used a thermometer too. Our next challenge will be to build a rain gauge to measure precipitation. Do you know what that means? You can ask us to clarify.

We have also used the recent weather as inspiration for art + design, improving our drawing and collage skills as well as learning more about colour. What do you think?

We enjoyed playing with beat and tempo when Arlo’s mum skilfully played her fiddle.

We were excited to dip into our bags provided by the Scottish Book Trust! We talked about fiction and non-fiction texts before reading a story. Our bags had everyone engaged and we especially enjoyed using the story cubes to make stories together as well as playing different number games. We will do more activities linked to ‘A Beginner’s Guide to BEAR SPOTTING’ later this week.

There are lots of activity ideas inside to help you use the contents in creative ways at home to further develop literacy and numeracy skills.

Thank you for supporting us before and during our learning assembly last week.

Here are some of our thoughts:

• We have already learned lots this year.
• I liked planning what we talked about in the assembly.
• I think I’m better at using expression in my voice.
• Next time we could maybe do more acting and drama.
• I am proud of our good teamwork.
• I’m looking forward to doing the Nativity now

Throughout the coming months, there will be events such as library and author visits, donate a book and the celebration of World Book Day.

The Library Committee will officially launch this challenge on Wednesday 29^th November and then it will be up to you to READ, READ, READ!!

Each month, a homework task will be issued based around reading, encouraging ‘reading for fun’ and the chance to explore different types of books.
