SPRINGTIME IS HERE AT LAST!

We went to Kittochside Farm Park. We even got to see some animals. We saw a baby lamb only a few hours old, a horse called Mhari, some huge pigs, some baby calves and cows also hens, chickens and eggs. A tractor took us to the farm, we were on Dougal the shoogle, the farm was a bit smelly!
Last Thursday we had a surprise visit from firefighters. They came in a fire truck. We got a shot of the hose and sat in the cabin. Lots of us put the hat on and the breathing mask, Miss Stead even had the uniform on. She said, “it was very, very heavy.”
On the 25th March we had Dream Big Day, we all dressed up as the person we wanted to be when we grew up. Harry, Sophie, Emma, Aleeza, Abby and Lily want to be teachers – look out Giffnock Primary! There were lots of Scientists, explorers, vets, doctors, nurses, policemen and firefighters.  We enjoyed our visit from storytellers who shared tales about a baker, it was very funny.
We have had a very busy month and are looking forward to entertaining you in our ‘Spring Eggstravaganza.’

February Fun in Primary 1!

We went to Eastwood Park for our Winter walk. We were looking at the changes in the park since Autumn and spotted some signs of Spring. We saw little buds of daffodils and crocus and some beautiful white snowdrops.
We had a Science Show called ‘The Big Drip’ it was about Materials and how they can change. We learned that liquids can change into solids e.g. lemonade can change into ice lollies if you put it in the freezer. We helped the Scientists to solve the mystery.
As part of our Farm to Fork topic we will be going to Kittochside Farm in March. We are really excited as we will see lots of animals and maybe go on a tractor.

January News

We have been working very hard since the holidays. As part of our Farm to Fork we have been thinking all about where the food on our plate comes from. We have been making bread with lots of different ingredients. The flour you need to make bread comes from wheat which is grown on a farm. We had a visitor from the SSPCA she told us all about rescue animals. To celebrate Robert Burns we had great fun singing Scottish songs with Scottish words.

School so far in Primary 1

We have enjoyed making lots of new friends – we played singing games together and love playtimes on the Trim Trail. Our topic is The School. We interviewed Mr Blair, our janitor. He told us about the different jobs he has to do to help us in the school.

As part of European Day of Languages, we learned how to say ‘hello’ in 8 different languages. We sang a ‘Hello’ song and ‘Frere Jacques’.

We have been practising balance games in P.E. and learning to log on at I.C.T. and use the Internet for our Numeracy games.

Garden Party Rewards

This term the children followed up their Garden Party success by discussing how they would like to spend the £30 profit.  The children decided they would like to buy caterpillars and nurture them until their change to butterflies.  The children enjoyed having them as part of the class and celebrated when releasing them into our school garden.

Commonwealth Games in Giffnock

Today we have taken part in lots of different sports. We have been split up into our houses and have been cheering on different countries. I enjoyed passing the ball and running in rugby (Amir). It was fun running around with the baton (Hayley). The Judo game called ‘land and sea’ was brilliant because I won (Hannah). We can’t wait for the closing ceremony so we can wave our flags again!

P1 Author Visit

Today Primary 1 had a special visit from author Lynsey McLeod. She came in to read us a story all about Toby the turtle (Noah). The story taught us that we shouldn’t throw plastic bags away because they can go into the sea and hurt the animals (Rory). We need to remember to recycle plastic bags, cans and bottles so the animals don’t get hurt (Olivia).

Judo

On Wednesday P1 had a Judo taster session. We had lots of fun learning some judo moves like ‘pinning’ and even picked up some new words in Japanese.
