October Blog

During the month of October, Primary 3a have been learning some really exciting things. We began the month by reading a book called “Eco Wolf”, which was an alternative take on the story of The Three Little Pigs.  However, in this story the pigs were the bad guys and the wolf was good because he was eco-friendly.  We also used an interactive ICT programme to help us learn more about the three R’s by completing some missions where we had to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. We learned that by doing all these things we can Respect the environment. This led to a discussion about ways that we can care for the environment and have even started a survey in school to find out how eco-friendly our teachers/classes are being.

We have been continuing to learn about plants and have been keeping a watchful eye on our experiment. So far we have found that our experiment has not gone as predicted and have discovered that the seeds with no soil and the seeds with no light have begun to grow while none of the other seeds have grown.  We look forward to seeing if our plants grow any further and will continue to record their progress.  We have also been using our investigating skills to make a poster about how to grow a bean and a nasturtium plant. We used our skills for life and work to help us work collaboratively.

In art this month we have been very crafty making our own spooky ghost decorations and spider baskets by using a range of media to create texture and layers so that they looked effective.

In music we have been working on rhythm by learning the beats “ta” and “te, te”.   We even learned that our heart beats like a rhythm.

October Awesome Achievers

P3a have had some fantastic achievements this month. We have been celebrating our achievements in sport, art, hobbies and personal skills.  Some children have been proud of taking on some extra responsibilities at home to help out.  Other people have been really creative making crafts, books and toys.  Someone even created a video game. Quite a few of us have gained some personal skills in mental maths and learning to tie our shoelaces.    Finally, we have been doing a range of sports including golf, swimming, rugby, gymnastics, dance and football.

September Learning Blog

At beginning of term we were learning about the author Roald Dahl. We read many books written by Roald Dahl including ‘The Enormous Crocodile’, ‘The Magic Finger’ and ‘The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me’. To explore some of his unusual characters we used drama to help us investigate their character traits.  We created our own crocodiles and designed our own clever tricks for The Enormous Crocodile if he came to Giffnock.  We even carried out an experiment about a magic finger and we learned how to make a prediction.

In science we have also been learning about plants. We worked in groups to discuss different experiments we could carry out to test plant growth. Having planted our seeds we are looking forward to recording their growth.

In Social Studies we investigated different types of houses and identified which type of house we lived in. In Art we used line and shape to create our own house and used our imagination to design an unusual house.

Awesome Achievers

Primary 3a have been celebrating their achievements in sport, art, hobbies and personal skills. Some people have been doing really well at sports including swimming, gymnastics, dancing, climbing, frisbee, rugby, football, cycling and diving.  Someone even won a trophy for their achievement in rugby.  Someone helped look after their pet rabbits. Another person has been learning to do really hard calculations at home.  One person created a house for their toys and some people have been learning to tie their shoe laces and their tie.

Our Learning!

We enjoyed the Tesco Football Festival as we got o play lots of games and we saw some friends from other schools.  We have been talking about different materials in Science, Rosie remembers discussing how they felt and if they are man-made or natural.  Primary Two have been following Tim Peake’s story and Rachael is looking forward to hearing all about our ‘space seeds’.  In Art we have been looking at Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Emma enjoyed trying to copy one of his roses.

Awesome Assembly!

We have been learning about courage and today we shared our learning with an audience.  We are very proud of this achievement and thoroughly enjoyed writing the script, designing the PowerPoint together and of course…making the masks!  We sang our song with confidence and we were happy with the result.  We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did and remember…there is courage in all of us!

Happy Holidays!

Primary Two are very proud of all of their hard work while practising for our Christmas Show.  We were all ‘stars’ and loved every minute of our performance!  We are looking forward to the holiday and would like to wish everyone a happy holiday and a wonderful 2016!

Awesome Achievers – November

Primary Two have been learning lots!  All our achievements are different but they are all good examples of how hard we can work to achieve something.  Some of us have learned to turn a corner on a skateboard, moved up levels in swimming and karate, to score goals, to canter, to do front flips, to water ski and to tap dance for a dance exam.  In gymnastics we have been practising the splits, backwards rolls, head stands, hand stands, a bridge with no hands, and mushroom stands.  Our whole class have also been working very hard to learn all of the words for the school show! We are all very excited!

Awesome Achievers!

Primary 2a have been working hard. We have all been getting better at different things by practising lots and not giving up. Our achievements have been in boomerang throwing, cycling, gymnastics, counting, reading, learning about Space, ice skating and tying shoe laces. One of us has even won a comic book drawing competition. We have also been confident individuals by helping other children to settle in at Rainbows or Beavers.

Our Rainforest Learning!

Primary Two have been learning about ‘The Rainforest’ and have used our knowledge to write an imaginative story.   Caris scared us by describing a spider being eaten by a boa constrictor, Logan described the noises you might hear in a rainforest and everyone used facts to make the stories more believable.  We have explored the forest floor and the understory layers in our learning and look forward to looking at the canopy and emergent layers.  In Science we have been learning about the senses and we have linked this to all of the things you might see in a rainforest.  We all agree that a rainforest is full of interesting things.

Rosie says, “I would like to see a boa constrictor but I don’t want to keep one as a pet!”

Evan disagrees, “I would like to see a boa constrictor AND keep it as a pet!”

In I.C.T we have been creating a fact sheet about the rainforest while learning skills such as saving documents, editing text and copy and paste.

We are loving the topic and have a lot more to learn.

Awesome Achievers!

Primary Two are awesome! We have been working hard to achieve lots of different things inside and outside of school.  We have people who have learned to ride a bike and someone has even cycled around Millport. Our swimmers are working hard trying to swim longer distances.  We all must be super fit as other successes have been in gymnastics, running, dancing and golf!  In class we have been learning about the rainforest and trying to remember facts.  Our reading is improving and we have tried to get involved with the school community by volunteering for committees.

A MAGICAL MONTH SO FAR….

It is a very exciting time in Primary 1. When we came in from lunch a few weeks ago we found magic dust and footprints leading to a scroll and a storybook. The scroll was a letter from a friendly dragon, he was very sad because he did not have a home anymore because Fairyland was destroyed. He wanted us to build Fairyland and to start sharing fairytales. The dragon left us a letterbox so we could write to him.
The first story we read was Jack and the Beanstalk. Logan W said ‘It is my favourite fairytale because I like it when the giant falls down the beanstalk’. In both classes we made a beanstalk for Jack. The dragon wrote us a letter to say that Jack loved the beanstalk and as a special treat he left us two presents, a small dragon for each class. Primary 1a called their dragon Sparkles and Primary 1b called their dragon Smoke. We are each going to have a turn of looking after the dragons at home. They are looking forward to some special sleepovers
