Win a Trip to Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London has launched for the seventh time the Student Competition this year with the title “Hong Kong: the best destination for start-up entrepreneurs!”. The objective of the Competition is to enable British students to experience Hong Kong’s vibrant ecosystem for developing innovation and technology and the enabling environment for start-ups.

The Competition offered UK sixth form secondary school students the chance to win a free trip to Hong Kong to attend a summer school programme at a Hong Kong university and have a genuine taste of the university campus life. Sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airways and supported by the British Council and InvestHK, the Competition has the participation of three key universities in Hong Kong.

To join the Competition, students are invited to compare the situation and developments between Hong Kong and a UK city in their respective policies and measures to support start-ups. Suggestions on how to further promote and develop Hong Kong as the best destination for start-ups will have added bonus. Students are free to present their submissions through any possible means, such as an essay, a video clip on youtube, a post in a blog, etc. Five winners will be selected and entries will be judged based on content, creativity and presentation.

To be eligible for the competition, the contestants must be –

(i)   British citizen holding a UK passport and without right of abode or right to land in Hong Kong;

(ii)  S5 or S6  and studying full time at a secondary school in the UK;

(iii) Be fluent in English;

(iv) Have consent to participate in the Competition by his/her parent or legal guardian; and

(v)  Able to support him/herself financially whilst in Hong Kong.

The Competition starts to receive entries today and the deadline for application is 8 May 2018.

Michael McGrade from our S6 cohort last year was one of the winners of the 2017 competition. Michael himself said,

This trip has strengthened me as a person – it has given me independence and courage and has greatly improved my confidence.” by Natalie Dearden, one of the winners for the 2015 competition.
