Tomorrow is “Wear your Trainers” to school day. This is being held to raise awareness of the dreadful events happening in Syria. Any money raised is being sent off to the “Save the Children” charity. The Pastoral Council are keen to support their peers in identifying the rights and responsibilities of children and have recognised that in Syria children’s rights are not being received. They hope that the donation will help to deliver some of these rights to needy children.
The Scottish Catholic Education service has asked us to highlight this event to parents.
Some weeks ago I advised you of the first Catholic Assembly of Parents being held on Saturday 25th August in the Xavier Centre, Carfin Grotto, Lanarkshire starting at 2pm and ending with Vigil Mass at 5.30pm. A working group established by the Catholic Education Commission is organising this event and they are keen to ensure that all Parent Councils are advised of it and encouraged to send representatives.
The Scottish Catholic Education Service is an agency of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland (also known as the Catholic National Endowment Trust Charity No SCO 16650)
Last week, we had a very special Eco inspection to see if we could retain our 4th Green Flag. When the inspector arrived she went to the ICT suite to hear our presentation about all the work we do in St Mark’s. Different members from each pupil group told her about the range of Eco activities we are involved in.
Some of the Power Rangers then gave her a tour around the outside of the school, including the the garden.
The assessor then visited three classes in the school and the Fairtrade shop to hear what Eco work had been going on. She seemed very impressed!
At the end of the day the inspector called the power rangers to say we had passed with flying colours and we were to keep up the good work!
St Mark’s received an award from Chris Hines today! Chris Hines is the co-founder of the Eden Project and was at Rouken Glen Park to launch their Community Orchard. He also presented St. Mark’s with a certificate in recognition of our contributions to GoGreener in tackling climate change.
