Mathematics & Numeracy

It is important to us that every young person is given the opportunity to achieve his or her potential within our subject. We endeavour to create a positive environment for the learning of mathematics and numeracy.
Mathematics is one of the core subjects for all pupils in S1 – S4. Our courses follow the curriculum for excellence experiences and outcomes through the Broad General Education from S1 to S3 and the New National Courses in S4.

In S5/S6 pupils may choose to continue with Maths at Higher level or to take one of the Intermediate levels, where their level of previous attainment determines the starting point. In S6 we also offer the Advanced Higher Course.

In addition to these courses, we encourage pupils to participate in some of the wide range of national and international competitions available. We see this as an important form of stimulation and enrichment with potential benefits for all pupils, not just the very able.

Mathematics is important in our everyday life, allowing us to make sense of the world around us and to manage our lives. Using mathematics enables us to model real-life situations and make connections and informed predictions. It equips us with the skills we need to interpret and analyse information, simplify and solve problems, assess risk and make informed decisions.
