Primary 1b have settled very well into school.
We have had lots of fun paining and printing patterns.
We love learning about numbers!
Just ask and we will tell you what games we are playing in school!
Primary 5d have been enjoying using reciprocal reading to enhance their understanding of text. It has also helped us to listen and work with others.
There are 5 jobs: The Big Boss makes sure everyone knows what they are doing and chooses their roles. The Clarifier helps us clarify tricky words. The Questioner thinks of interesting questions about the text. The Predictor predicts what will happen in the story. The Summariser tells the story in their own words. I love it! Ellie S
‘Reciprocal reading is a great way to get people involved in reading altogether because they all get a job ‘ Mary – Rose C
‘ We all work as a team and if you get a word wrong, someone will help you.’ Poppy Br
‘It helps me keep track with reading and I can understand the story better’ Marc C
Our numeracy focus this term is multiplication. We are learning to recall all multiplication facts from 1 – 10 and love to play the Fingers game to help with this.
“It is really fun to play and it makes you think of multiplication tables more!” Jessica M
“I want to play this game every single day!” Niall Mc
Primary 1c are using number fans to show the number before and after. They are so clever that they are now beginning to learn about odd and even numbers.
How clever are they?
They are learning to identify and write the number four.
Jolly Phonics is a programme that is used in Primary 1 to help the children learn their sounds. It is interactive and engaging. Today’s letter was the letter ‘n’
We welcomed Snappy the Crococilde who told us all about the importance of brushing our teach. We learned that we have to open our mouth wide and not eat too many sugary sweets. We also learned what direction to brush our teeth in. Just ask us and we will show you!
The playground games are great and we were shown how to use the climbing wall safely and take turns on the train.
In the playground we are very responsible and are learning how to line up properly and care for each other.
Oh what stars!
Primary 7b, Mr Docherty’s class, worked co-operatively to create their own ‘Wellbeing Wheel’. They discussed what makes them feel; ‘Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected, Responsible and Included. In doing this they realised how important it is to work together as a school community to make sure that Our Lady of the Missions Primary continues to be a happy and healthy school!
We currently use EducationCity.com in the school, and we have the option to allow your child access to this at home through our school subscription. Continue reading Education City

Thanks to everyone who made this years Sports Day a great success. The weather was kind to us and the children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in all the races. It was new to Primary 1 but they rose to the occasion and participated with enthusiasm. From Primary 2-7 all races went like clock work and the children were competitive but showed good sportsmanship!
A great day was had by all at the recent Matthew Carney Football Tournament. Fourteen schools took part making this our busiest event to date. Although competative, the children thoroughly enjoyed the day and there was a great atmosphere. A big thanks to all the coaches and dads who made this a super day. A special thanks to Mr Paul MacConnell for organising the event. Congratulations also to Ciaran McAndrew, P7, for being awarded the Matthew Carney Trophy for Sportmanship. Well done Ciaran!
Primary 5 took part in a competition run by Netherlee and Stamperland Community Council. They had to design a logo that highlighted the work of the council. The judges were very impressed with the standard of the children’s designs.
Oonagh was the overall winner and received a £25 book token.
Patrica , Anna , Joshua , Leila and Jack were all runners up and received a £10 book token
