Before the festive season submerges us with tinsel and turkey, here’s a quick update on what the Parent Council has been discussing and has planned:
OLM Hub – all parents / carers are welcome to our next “Coffee, Cake Communicate!” get together on Friday 24 November at 2pm in the junior dept dining area. We look forward to welcoming as many as possible for a chat.
Topics discussed – minutes will be published soon but here’s a quick recap on key points we covered at our last meeting:
- the ERC budget consultation – we have taken part in the Council’s feedback forums and discussed the proposals. Mrs Dillon-Ruddy clarified proposed cuts to classroom assistants will not directly affect OLM as our pupil support assistants do not fall into that category. Whilst we’ve offered our feedback, please do respond directly to the consultation using this link (previously circulated by the school). It closes on 28 November. http://www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/article/9172/2018-2021-budget-consultation—Closing-soon
- additional support for learning in school was discussed
- communication and involvement continue to be key areas for us to develop as a school community
- amended anti bullying and promoting positive behaviour policies are being put in place (see email circulated by school) and we heard about new initiatives to incentivise good behaviour including stickers/certificates/reflection sheets
- the new STEM room has been created and funding has been applied for to develop this. A report by Architecture and Design Scotland (consultants) has also just been received and we hope to hear about recommendations at our next meeting.
- the library is getting there but there is still a lot of work to do in cataloging books – if parents have a spare hour any time, please do pop into the school to offer help. You do not need to pre arrange this, just ask for Mrs Wright in school.
- we continue to support the school (as does the PSA) with the Playground Project. We will generate a separate update on this as there is much to cover!
- finally, we wished Mr MacConnell well in his new post and thanked him for everything he has done for the school – as well as teaching in the school more recently, Mr MacConnell set up the OLM football club and continues to run it for the benefit of over 200 OLM pupils.
