Outdoor Learning and Forest Kindergarten

At Glen Family Centre we appreciate and embrace the importance of high quality outdoor learning experiences for all our children.  Children will have opportunity every day to be outdoors in our beautifully designed outdoor spaces, our wonderfully exciting ‘woodland’ area or our beautiful community resource  of Rouken Glen Park.

All children have the right to  daily outdoor play.  At Glen Family Centre our educators use guidance such as  ‘My world outdoors‘ and ‘Loose parts play’  in addition to specialist  Forest Schools training to ensure excellent experiences for our very young children.

Within the centre, we provide all necessary outdoor clothing such as snow suits, hats, gloves, welly socks and wellingtons and access outdoors in all weathers and all seasons. We aim to develop our approach so that our children can have free movement between both the indoor and outdoor environment throughout the course of their nursery day.   Research has shown that children who engage in outdoor play have higher levels of engagement and therefore learning.

We are always keen to support our parents to lead learning within the centre and the outdoor environment often proves a favourite area for parental engagement opportunities.  Please let Emma (Forest Schools lead) know if you could be part of taking this learning forward.
