Primary 1 March blog

After an extremely exciting week at Crookfur Primary with the visit from the education minister and an announcement of a complete refurbishment of the school, we discussed during circle time what we had learned this week.

In topic this week Primary 1 have been learning about transport. We have learned that there is land, sea and air transport. Submarines are under water and they look out for danger, lifeboats and yachts are also sea transport.  We also learned about the transport in air, like a hot air balloon, aeroplane and a helicopter. We looked at different pictures on the whiteboard and had a quiz to identify the name and the type of transport it was. We also had an art afternoon where we painted, drew and used collage to create different types of transport. We also create paper airplanes, playdough and lego models of different types of transport, it was a lot of fun.  ” Oscar, Ayla & Darcey.”

This week we have also been learning about internet safety. We learned that it is very important to be careful when you are on the computer. You should not be unkind to other people or say mean things. It is important to ask your mum and dad for permission when going onto the computer. We found out that it is a good idea to make up a nickname and not to give out your real name to any strangers. “Eilidh”

PC Lyndsay came into assembly on Friday morning and gave us a talk about internet safety. We also had to brainstorm ideas about internet safety and colour in the picture of the computer.

In language we have been learning about the main idea and answering questions with who, what, why, where and when?In maths we have continued to practise adding with tens and units while revising o’clock and half past the hour.

Ms Constance, who works in parliament, and lots of very important people came to visit on Thursday and told us some great news. Crookfur Primary School is going to get an extension and it will be made all new inside. This will be brilliant for us. It will be ready by the time we get to Primary 4. We have been learning lots more about transport – on Tuesday and Wednesday we had the chance to make paper aeroplanes and fly them outside, design our own school bus, create helicopters and other transport using lego, we had fun using playdough to create a transport picture, we read books about truck and found interesting information and many more great activities. Dhruv – In my reading group we have been learning how to do true, false, can’t tell questions. We read the book then we were given a big, huge bit of paper that had parts of the story on it. Some were true, some were false and some we couldn’t tell so we had to highlight the correct answer. It was good to do and I did really well. Kai – I have been learning how to draw out parts of a story. I need to pick the main events and draw them out and I can write a sentence too. Rebecca – I have been learning how to count higher than 100. I can go back to the number 1 to help me do this and it follows the same patterns. Millia – Anne – We have been learning how to listen to the teacher and write a sentence. We have to listen very carefully to what she is saying then we do our best to write out the sentence making sure we have finger spaces, full stops and capital letters. We are looking forward to some more learning next week. tant people came to visit on Thursday and told us some great news. Primary 1 February

In Primary 1 we have been learning about the fair trade logo. We learned that the logo is made up of a little man. The logo consists of three different colours, blue , black and green. We learned about the logo by copying it from the board and using the correct colours to colour it in. We found out that the logo can be found on different food such as bananas, apples, oranges, chocolate bars and pineapples.

In art we have been learning about the work of the famous artist Andy Warhol. He used different colours and textures to create his artwork. We created our own Warhol style of art by painting the background of the pictures different colours. We drew around our hand 4 different times and painted different colours inside to create the effect of pop art.

In ICT we have been learning how to access a word document and insert pictures from clipart. We also learned how to save our work into a file. We learned this by looking at the big whiteboard in the ICT suit and listening to the step by step instructions given by the teacher. We worked with a partner to find a picture from clip art and save it onto word.

In maths we have been learning challenging calculations. We used a number line, cubes and drawings to help us find the correct answer. The teacher put a problem solving question on the board, we read the question together and then we had to decide which strategy to use to try and find the correct answer.

P1 blog – Friday 27th February

Learning Blog

This week we have enjoyed learning more about Fair Trade. We explored lots of Fair Trade products that have the Fair Trade logo on them. The Fair Trade logo is black, green and blue. On Tuesday we made some Fair Trade posters that showed we know all about Fair Trade products. On Friday we came to school wearing Fair Trade colours – this was brilliant. At assembly we learned lots more about Fair Trade and the children in the focus group gave us a lot more information. Some of the Primary two children sang a Fair Trade song. There was also a Fair Trade stall where we could buy rainbow cakes, smelly loon bands, chocolate, rice crispy cakes, brownies and lots more goodies. We know that farmers need to get enough money for the things that they grow.

We have been learning lots of other things in Primary 1 this week. Here are some of the children to tell us all about it:

Zara – I have been learning how to write sentences. To write a sentence I need a rainbow alphabet and I need to make sure I have full stops, finger spaces and capital letters.

Ellis – We have been learning to use maths jotters. I have to remember to keep my numbers in their own boxes, my numbers need to face the right way and I can use a number line to help me do this.

Euan – I have been learning to write my letters and numbers. I used the road letters with a car to help me remember what my letters look like and I can use a big number line to help me with my numbers.

Abi – I have been learning how to count in 2s. When we started Mrs McGurren showed us how to do it using our hands and legs by tapping. It was good fun and I am looking forward to learning more. We also know more about tens and units and we can use the cubes and blocks to help us.
