EWHCF Class of 2020

Our learning in P4 this week

In Science we have learnt about the properties of different materials. We used our knowledge of the properties of materials to design a structure that could store the PE equipment. We included materials like clay bricks, metal and wood which are strong, rigid and waterproof. We presented our design solutions to the rest of the class.

“It was quite difficult because we had to think about all of the properties.” – Danny

“I also found it quite difficult because you had to work with a group and make decisions together but we ended up doing great!” – Lucy

“It was fun when you designed the inside and got to draw where all the equipment could go.” – Daniyal

In Maths, the Cones have been investigating different number systems that were used thousands of years ago. One of these was Roman numerals and another was Maya numbers.

“It was tricky learning Roman numerals because they didn’t have zero and they used letters. The Maya numbers used symbols instead.” – Max .F.

“Roman numerals were harder because they didn’t have a 0 to make 2 a 20 or 200. All of the numbers had to be worked out by adding and subtracting.” – Harry.

The Cubes have learnt about multiplication including carrying. We have been practising questions from the board and also making our own up on the board for the rest of the group to answer.

“It was fun doing questions on the board, but we did some really tricky ones where the answers had carrying for the tens and hundreds.” – Beth

In PE we have been learning a game called Gauntlet where you have to run while other people try to show shuttles at you. This has improved our dodging skills and our throwing skills.

“It was really fun running around but it was quite scary as well!” – Jessica

In language we are all writing bedtime stories to enter into a competition. We started by listening to some bedtime stories (Mog’s Bunny and Monkey Puzzle) and they gave you a little advice and some ideas about how to write your own story. The main character for the stories had to be an animal but we got to decide whether the other characters were humans or animals. We started by creating our characters, planning our ideas and deciding what journey our character would go on, then we wrote these in a story.

“It was fun because we got to plan what we were going to write then put our ideas in a story.” – Aila

“I really liked it and found it really interesting. The winner of the competition will get their story illustrated.” – Erin

“It was exciting because we got to make up our own stories and use our imagination.” – Emily
