EWHCF Class of 2020

This week in Primary 3 :)

IMG_9074In language we were learning about onomatopoeia. It is words that sound like the noise that they make, like ‘zoom’, ‘boom’, ‘pop’, tweet’ and ‘crackle’. Then we put them into a poem: Afternoon comes with cars zooming.
Alexander

In language this week we have been learning about alliteration. It is when all the words in a sentence start with the same letter: Horrid Henry hates homework, Lucky Lily likes licking lollipops. We had to cut out lots of examples of onomatopoeia, similes and allitleration and stick them into the right column. Then we used these in our writing to describe a time machine and a monster.

We have also been learning about similes. These are whenIMG_9073 you compare things by saying ‘like’ or ‘as’: as black as a panther or as cold as ice. We made up our own similes and drew them out IMG_9071with pictures to match. Iain wrote “as smelly as socks”.

IMG_9066In maths this week we have been learning about times tables. We played a game and if we got the answer correct we would take a big step forward. The aim was to reach the teacher. We have also learned at imes tables songs, made posters and we have been playing games like around the world and we also did lots of different stations. I like learning my tables because it is really fun because I like the stations and I love to play games.

IMG_9065In art this week we were learning about Vincent Van Gogh and today we were drawing a picture of his sunflower painting. First we saw the original painting and then we had to try to copy it very carefully. You needed to draw it in pencil and then use a black fine line pen for it to stand out. This was one of his most famous paintings and there IMG_9064were just 7 sunflowers. He only sold 2 paintings in his whole life and didn’t become famous until after he died.

In PSD we have been making games based on the Rights ofIMG_9070 the Child. Me and Holly worked together to make a matching pairs game where you turn the cards over and try to match the cards which show how you do and do not get your right: ‘dirty water’ and ‘clean water’ would be a match. At the end, IMG_9069whoever has got the most pairs wins. We thought this would be a wee bit different from what other people would do and it was quite easy to make.
