Primary 3’s trip to Vikingar!

This week Primary 3 visited Vikingar in Largs to discover more about their current Social Studies topic – The Vikings. During our trip we had a fantastic time looking at artefacts and trying on clothes in the Longhouse and learning about the Viking Gods in the Hall of the Gods. Here are some of the wonderful things that we now know about the Vikings…

I’ve learned that there were 24 Viking Gods. (Ross)

I’ve learned that when it was winter the farm animals would come into the Viking’s house for 16 weeks. (Navdeep and Sophie)

I’ve learned that the colour blue was a very rich colour for Viking because it was a difficult colour to make. (Amber)

I have learned that Viking boats were called Longships and they had a dragon at the front to scare off any enemies. (Aayan)

I’ve learned that Vikings believed in sea monsters. (Lewis and Yusuf)

I’ve learned that Odin gave his eye to a serpent in exchange for 2 ravens. (Abhay)

I’ve learned that Loki was the God of mischief. (Rachel)

I have learned that Odin had two ravens called memory and thought. (Usman)

I’ve learned that Vikings only wear horns on their helmet when they are celebrating. They don’t wear them in battle because their enemies could pull them off easily. (Marcus)

I’ve learned that the Vikings would ground rye seeds to make bread. They would do this every day and it took 8 hours. (Olivia S)

I’ve learned that when a wealthy Viking died they would set a longboat on fire with arrows as part of their funeral. (Christopher)

The Vikings were famous for overlapping their shields for protection during battle. (Daniel)

I’ve learned that Vikings lived in longhouses. (Amara)

I’Ve learned that every time Frey tugged his beard two swords appeared to kill his enemy. (Ciaran)

I’ve learned that 50 to 60 people could fit in a Viking longship. (Mariyah)

I’ve learned that Vikings were lucky to live over 40. (Molly and Olivia C)

The longhouse floor was made of mud, straw, ox blood and cows dung. (Hannah)

I’ve learned that Freya was a Viking God. (Ruby)

I’ve learned that most Vikings were farmers and the battle of Largs took place in 1263. (James)

I’ve learned that Vikings wore helmets in battle. (Ravina)

I’ve learned that all the Gods had to eat golden apples to stay young. (Emily)
