This week in language we have started writing an imaginative story about a snowy day. We have been looking at ensuring our writing has a beginning, middle and end and that we include lots of adjectives and the correct punctuation. So far we have written some really interesting and descriptive openings and look forward to finishing our story over the next couple of weeks.

This week the cuboids have been looking at adding 9. We realised that we could do this by adding 10 and subtracting 1. We know that when you add 10 to a number the number in the units column stays the same and the number in the tens column increases. Next week we will begin to look at calculations where we will be adding 11 and moving on to subtracting 9.

The cylinders have been finishing off their work on 3D shapes this week by investigating the properties of a variety of 3D shapes. We have identified how many faces, vertices and corners a shape has and we have been looking at grouping them by similarities and differences; for example, a cube and cuboid both have 6 faces, 8 vertices and 12 edges. Next week we will be looking at the nets and what 2D shapes make up a 3D shape.

This week with Mrs McGregor in PE we have been doing gymnastics. We have started to move on to completing more difficult techniques and have also been developing our skills on the climbing frame by introducing some new equipment.

We have been continuing to learn about the Buddha’s life during RME. We learned about the impact leaving the palace had on him. Here he saw a different side to life; he saw people who were sick, people who had passed away and people who had to beg for money. This was all new to him as he had lived a sheltered life in the palace. We are interested to find out the impact this had on him and if it made him change attitude towards people.

This Friday was a very different day! We dressed up or brought in a prop from our favourite book. This gave us the opportunity to talk about books and share our favourite stories. We have completed some different book activities, such as: writing reviews, making annotated maps of the setting of our story, acting out part of the plot and writing character descriptions. Some of Primary 3’s favourite books have included: Harry Potter, Matilda, My Little Pony, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr Fox and Pirates Love Underpants.
