Introduction
The Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006 was established for the following purposes:
• To help parents become more involved with their child’s education and learning
• To welcome parents as active participants in the life of the school
• To provide easier ways for parents to express their view and wishes
We are committed to working in partnership with the school in the education of all our children.
The purpose of this document is to advise all Carolside parents and carers how the Parent Council works and how to make contact with it.
The Parent Council
The Parent Council has been formed to undertake the following tasks:
• To support the school in its work with the pupils
• To represent the views of all parents
• To encourage links between the school, parents, pupils, pre-school groups and the wider community
• To report back to the parents
The Parent Council for Carolside has been set up in the following format:
• Two representatives have been appointed for each year group in the school.
• A representative has been appointed for the nursery pupils
• Two members of the PTA have joined the Parent Council as co-opted members
• Two teachers have joined the Parent Council as co-opted members
In accordance with the Act, the Headteacher has a right and duty to attend the meetings of the Parent Council and he plays an active part in how it conducts its business.
The local Councillors regularly attend our meetings and participate in our discussions.
