Duke of Edinburgh Expedition – 21st & 22nd June
This message is for Duke of Edinburgh students who started DOFE in Sept 2019.
DOFE Bronze award students have the opportunity of attending a modified DOFE Expedition on Monday & Tuesday, 21st & 22nd June. The expedition will consist of two days of walking, without any camping or overnight stay.
In order for students to be eligible for this expedition, students must have completed the physical, skill and volunteering sections AND have all of their evidence, photos and assessor’s reports uploaded into their edofe accounts.
The Expedition
Students eligible to take part in the expedition will:
- need to be able to get themselves to/from the Whiteleas Windfarm on both the Monday and Tuesday. Unfortunately we are not able to offer any form of transport.
- The students will start and finish each day in two different areas (all within the Whiteleas windfarm).
- Students will arrive at the agreed starting point ready to walk in groups. They will be supported by a dofe leader who will show the group how to use a map, route card and a compass.
- Students are required to come suitably dressed for the weather (ie suncream and waterproofs).
- Students will require a lunch and plenty water.
- There will be no camping or cooking equipment issued.
- The final cost of the expedition is still to be agreed, but it could £60 per student. This would be paid through ParentPay. I will clarify the cost as soon as I can.
Any student struggling to complete their DOFE Award should speak with Mr Boag ASAP.
A useful website that explains the changes DOFE Scotland has made to the award to support students during lockdown is here.
Further details will follow.
