Broad General Education

In S1 and S2 you will spend part of the year in Geography, and part in History.

In Geography, we cover the following topics:

S1

  • Map skills – this is an introduction to reading and analysing maps
  • Wonders of the World – each class will vote on which Natural wonders of the World they want to learn about.  This year we explored the Great Barrier Reef, Crystal Caves, Aurora borealis and Grand Canyon among others
  • India – a country of contrasts.  In this unit you will lean about life in a developing area of the world and the similarities and differences with life in the UK
  • Rapid Response – in term 3, around the school you will work on an Interdisciplinary project based around a hurricane in Central America

S2

  • Empty Lands – we will learn about the climate and landscapes of deserts, tundra and rainforests and how people, plants and animals have adapted to the regions
  • Globalisation & Fashion – here we learn about why countries are interdependent through a cases study of the fashion industry
  • Earth Forces – this topic focuses on the causes of volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis, and the impact these have on different areas of the world
  • Climate Change – in this unit we look at the reasons behind climate change and impacts both at home and overseas
