About Us

– Geography Department

Throughout your child’s time in Barrhead High, he/she will pass through the Geography Department and will be involved in many different activities. These will range from taking part in fieldwork to researching topics on different aspects of our diverse and wonderful world.

Geography studies the world’s physical features, how it works and how people live on it. We look at weather, the environment and the forces that drive the planet, from tides to volcanoes, along with global issues such as inequalities and sharing resources. We study physical and human environments and how they affect each other. Geography gives pupils a wider understanding of key ideas across a variety of situations.

As well as using maps and diagrams, learners will get involved in practical activities to help them observe Geography in action. They will develop skills in research, analysis, presentation and solving problems. Learners will develop problem solving and investigative skills and be able to carry out research using geographical techniques. They will gain expertise in the use of a range of maps and geographical information systems (GIS) technology.
