Maths week part 1

Maths week in P7.28 involved a number of engaging and interactive activities.

We didn’t let the rain spoil our maths week fun while we were completing our math week orienteering challenge. We used maps to help us locate the challenge cards and worked in teams to find the answers to each of the calculations.

Harry Potter Day

We had lots of fun with our Harry Potter themed day!  There were  fun and exciting tasks ranging from – maths involving calculating prices for our uniform and school kits for starting Hogwarts to completing a Sorting Hat quiz to find out which house we were all in!

We started off by entering our Hogwarts classrooms.

The Sorting Hat placed us into different houses, below is some of the houses we are in.

Lauren, Rachel and Steven- Ravenclaw

Maya, Melissa, Zara, Fraser, Marcas and Sophie – Hufflepuff

Miss McColl, Katie Marshall and Aleena – Gryffindor

Eassa – Slytherin

Everyone was happy with their results – Great news, we are ready to begin our year at Hogwarts.

Another fun challenge that was set, was an Emoji quiz – this was claimed to be one of the best parts of Harry Potter day!

Everyone had a wonderfully magical day and can’t wait to find out what our themed day will be next week!

Fruity Friday!

Katie Marshall won a competition in our Google Classroom and the prize was, to select a challenge or fun activity for the class to complete.

She came up with an amazing idea – ‘Fruity Friday’!

Below are some of the fantastic things we were doing with fruit. There are lots of different ways to serve fruit as 6.24 have shown below!!

Guess the Babies!!

This week is 6.24, everyone has been working very hard on range of maths and literacy tasks. There was also some fun microscopy images to look at.

Last week, lots of the class took part in a quiz, where they had to work out which baby photo was which teacher, they all had lots of fun doing this. This was more challenging that everyone had thought it would be!

Since then, 6.24 had been submitting their own baby photos for a quiz they all had yesterday, where they had to guess who each other were from their baby photos.

Everyone had lots of fun doing this! Here are a few of our cute baby photos from 6.24.

Food Technology

In 6.24, we have all been busy making and baking a whole range of different sweet treats, lunches and dinners!

We have been working with our parents, brothers, sisters and some of us doing it all on our own. On Tuesdays we have been uploading these to our Google Classroom for everyone to see.

We have been making; vegetarian meatballs, muffins, cupcakes, pastries, flapjacks, smoothies, Krispy cakes and lots more. Here are some photos of the fabulous things we have been creating!

During STEM fortnight we had many visitors and one of them was Strathclyde University and they talked to us about bacteria and we even put some bacteria on a petri dish to let it grow, here are some pictures.

Our next visitor was workers from the science centre they did multiple science experiments including, solar powered cars done by Muhammad (someone in our class),with a magnet we created a flying car going around a magnetic track and lastly what takes up more space gas or liquid and the answer is gas.

After that we had dogs trust come in and teach us about dogs safety and how to care for one responsibly and how to get one from dogs trust.

After dogs trust we had the NSPCC who talked about cruelty to children and abuse and how it is not okay they also played videos, talked about who you could talk to if your worried or scared and they talked about children and their number is 0800 1111.

In 6.24 for the last two weeks we have been presenting power points and posters on famous Scots .

Some people have done some really interesting people in history such as Mary Somerville,  William Wallace, Boudicca,  Robert Burns, Robert the Bruce and many more!!!

We have all  had lots of fun doing these power points and posters. We  love doing solo talks and it helps us improve our confidence and  learning.

Defib week!

Hello Everybody.  In 6.24 we have had lots visitors, and had lots of fun learning how to do CPR. Our first visitor was St. Andrews ambulance service, teaching us how to do CPR with the Anne dolls. We were also taught how to do the recovery position.

For our second visitor we had  the Red Cross come in to tell us about first aiding. We learnt about what would happen in the case of a seizure, and ways to treat a burn.

We also had another lovely visitor Fiona Hogarth to talk about the heart. She showed us what they would do to fix peoples hearts if they have problems with them.

Our last visitor was Miss McColl’s brother Lewis, who works in the First responders ambulance service. He showed us a video about what to do if your ordinary day turns into an extraordinary one. He also showed what a modern defibulator looks like. We all got a close look at it by passing it round the desks. It was very exciting. This was one of our favorite visitors this week.

We all really enjoyed learning about defib week. We hope to have all these visitors come again.

In 6.24 we have been learning lots about the dangers of smoking,  the impacts underage drinking has on our bodies and how these experiences can occur through peer pressure.

We worked really hard over the last week to create lots of different learning statements, poems and raps which were excellently performed to P5-7 and some of our amazing parents at yesterday’s assembly.
