This week we are writing our scripts in class but we have to make sure to include some new vocabulary. We have worked on vocabulary enrichment tasks and also using context clues to find the meaning of words that we are unsure of. We have been looking at the John Muir Trust ‘Lost Words’ which was very interesting!
We will hopefully be able to apply our newfound vocabulary to our scripts this afternoon, before the filming commences…
P7 have been delighted to welcome Miss Harrison as our recovery teacher this term. She will be working with half of the class on a Tuesday afternoon cooking, while the other half work with Miss Thomson on a super fun literacy project. After 4 weeks we will swap over. Exciting!
Here’s a snippet of what we’ve been up to in the kitchen and the class…
We will keep you updated with our weekly activities.
Today we had the pleasure of a video call with Andrew Duncan, a tuba player in the BBC symphony orchestra, as part of BBC’s symphony sessions.
Andrew showed us his tuba, played us some tunes, and we were able to clap along with them too. We got a chance to ask him some of our questions and he was great at answering hem all for us.
Thanks so much, Andrew. It was great fun and we learned a lot!
We LOVED using our problem solving skills outside yesterday! We had to follow the map to find the calculations and we worked with others to solve the problems. We are going to try this again next week to solve some codes outside!
Today we took part in a live origami YouTube lesson. It was great to be creative and use expressive arts skills, while learning about, and reinforcing our knowledge of 3D shape.
It was challenging but we used our growth mindsets to persevere until we got there in the end.
A successful morning in 7.27!
Thank you to all of the family and friends that supported our Christmas Fayre on Saturday. P623 were busy last week researching, designing and manufacturing our wood slice Christmas tree ornaments and thanks to you, we were able to sell over 60.
To celebrate European Day of Languages 2019, Mearns Primary have decided to study various European artists. In P623, we can chosen the Austrian artist Gustav Klimt.
We looked at the paintings “Portrait of Adel Boch Bauer” and “The Tree of Life” to discover the unique style of Klimt.
We conclude that Klimt’s paintings have the following in common
- use of bright colours
- use of metallic elements
- bright colours and
- geometry shapes and patterns.
With this information we created our own Klimt inspired artwork using Mary Queen of Scots and the Darnley Tree as our context.
Welcome to our learning blog!
