P.E – Rugby

We have enjoyed the start of our new outdoor P.E block of rugby the last two weeks.

We have been working on developing our skills that were previously taught by Whitecraigs player Nicole and are advancing into small-sided touch rugby game play and skills drills.

Today we learnt the overhead pass, a technique used in line-outs and focused on performing accurate passes that our teammates were able to receive and run on with the ball for a try.

We look forward to more rugby in the coming weeks as the infamous Six Nations tournament begins in February – we think this will give us lots of inspiration!

Uplevelling Sentences using Connectives

We had a busy start to the week in our Literacy today with a specific focus on using connectives to make our sentences more detailed.

First, we worked together to read a passage and identify any connectives that we could see. These included ‘however, as well as, in addition, consequently, thus and because.’

We then applied our knowledge that a conjunction is a part of speech that connects words, phrases, or clauses that are called the conjuncts of the conjunctions to up level sentences in our literacy jotters.

Grammar Monday’s could be our new favourite thing!

First week of 2022 in 6.22

Happy New Year and welcome back to 6.22! We had a very busy and exciting week in our class after returning to school following the Christmas holiday.

We came back to a special surprise that our festive corner has now been transformed into a new library/reading corner. We have our own beanbags to sit back and enjoy a good book (this week we started our new class novel Wonder) as well as new books that were gifted to us.

Additionally, we began our new integrated day and we were all very excited to see if we could achieve our learning targets. Our class reflection on Friday showed that our entire class enjoyed this type of learning and we all feel that we are working even harder to get through our tasks and feel proud when we can remove our target counter after our Literacy, Maths and/or BGE is complete.

We look forward to continuing this in the coming weeks and we have some exciting projects coming up soon – stay tuned!

Mixed Media Christmas Tree Project

Today in 6.22 we completed a Christmas themed mixed media art project using water coloured paints.

We created, blended and explored different shades for our Christmas tree, background scene and experimented with different brush strokes to create a realistic texture of the branches.

We then added strips of card to create a window scene and decorated our tree with bright acrylic paint baubles.

Christmas Card Craft

This afternoon we spent time making our own Christmas cards. We showed excellent listening skills by following instructions to ensure that our cards were carefully assembled.

We enjoyed creating a Christmas bauble that looked similar to Santa Claus and we then chose who to give our cards to and wrote a message inside for them.

Here are some of our finished designs!

Writing – Christmas Factual Reports

Today we were very busy in class working on our Factual Report Writing. We spent time finding out different facts about Christmas traditions and how it is celebrated around the world.

Throughout the lesson, excellent growth mindset was on display with the class wanting to go over and above their group targets and add more information to their reports.

We felt confident when reading a passage and identifying which statements were facts and which were opinions and were all very proud of our final pieces of work.

Campaigners – Showcase

Last week, we hosted our Mearns Masters Campaigners Swap Shop in our classroom and welcomed pupils from Primary 6.

The event was a great success with every item we had brought in being taken away to a new home. We gave a presentation explaining our work in each week though our Campaigners block and welcomed customers to our class store.

Our shoppers were very excited, one even saying “this shop is better than Primark!!”

We really enjoyed hosting our showcase event and sharing our learning from this Mearns Masters. Next up – Coding!

Writing – Factual Reports

In our writing, 6.22 have been focusing on learning about the difference between a fact and an opinion.

A fact is a statement that can be proven or checked, while an opinion is a statement that tells what a person thinks, feels, or believes and cannot be proven.

We learnt that authors or writers usually give their opinion on a topic and back it up with facts, this makes their argument more convincing.

We spent our lesson researching facts about our favourite animal and then presenting these in a short factual report.

To achieve our learning intention we ensured that our reports had: a title, an introduction, sub-headings and different paragraphs each with a different focus.

Campaigners – Swap Shop Preparation

Today during our Mearns Masters in 6.22 we were busy preparing for our Campaigners Swap Shop Showcase next week!

We want to say a big thank you to our parents and carers at home who have sent in pre-loved clothes and accessories for us to use.

We spent time organising and labelling clothes according to size, age, height and colour. We are looking forward to welcoming other Primary 6 classes and members of staff to our classroom.

We will also be giving a presentation summarising our work across this 6 week block of Mearns Masters and highlighting the importance of using sustainable fashion to help our environment!

Classroom Festivities

Today marked the first day of advent in 6.22 and our classroom has been transformed into a Christmas Wonderland!

We enjoyed decorating our tree with baubles, tinsel, lights and snowflakes and sharing our excitement about what December will bring both in school and out!
