New Year, New Beginnings

On Monday we had a new book called the Ice Monster by David Walliams we read chapters 1-4 , discussed the book, then answered questions to the chapters.   This was one of our read to write tasks from Giglets.

For maths we started learning about measurement and converting between different units, using what we learned from decimals. We had lots of challenges.

On Tuesday we went out for PE and played 3 different games we also did Science.

On Wednesday we were doing measurement and we also were writing play scripts for our film festival and as you see we were finding costumes.

On Thursday we were filming our movies for the film festival and we did a task for measurement and did indoor PE with 6.21. We learned lots of new badminton skills like serving and hand-eye coordination.

On Friday we did spelling and mental maths. They were hard but we enjoyed discussing all of our strategies. We got some values time outside and we had some time to play different games in class.

Our Week In 6.23

On Tuesday, P6.23 did P.E, Mrs Thompson chose 4 people to host a game. Our instructors were Euan, who hosted wet foot, Harrison and Aiden who hosted dodge ball, and Sam, who hosted port starboard.

On Wednesday we did maths! The cubes did maths about thousandths, and we used Bbc bitesize for some independent study. The spheres learned about tenths and did some work on a whiteboard. The pyramids practised their times tables.

We read Wonder with our partners and worked on identifying true and false statements.

On Thursday, we were listening to some amazing solo talks about famous Scots by our class.

We then did P.E which was in the gym hall and we played a team game which built teamwork, and strength. After P.E we attended P6.21’s fashion show, the fashion show was made by reused clothes. P6.21 named their fashion show “Fashion Passion”. After the fashion show, some girls from P6.21 did a dance.

We went outside and learned a little about algebra and solving equations. It was good fun! We used leaves, stones and sticks to represent the unknown digit.

Today we were even more entertained with more solo talks. For our mental maths, we played a speed game, where we had to use our skill and speed. You would have to try answer the quickest to get a reward, the quickest that didn’t answer the question right wouldn’t get the reward, and the other fastest that did get it right would get the reward. Some really fast people had to close their eyes to make it a bit more fair.

After lunch, we had some values time to play on the pitch.

Spelling Outside

One of the activities we did today helped us revise spelling rules and create words using letter stones.

Have a look and listen to the following videos and see how we worked together to revise some of the spelling rules we have learned.

The Promise and leaf rubbing

After listening to the story The Promise, by Nicola Davies and Laura Carlin, which was launched as a video animation on Monday in Scotland, we had some great discussions on nature, how being outside in nature makes us feel and how growing things is such a satisfying and happy and joyful experience .  Here is a link to the website where you can listen to the story again and watch the animation too.

We then went outside and collected some interesting leaves and made some beautiful leaf rubbings using colourful oil pastels.
