It’s Been A Bumper Few Weeks

We are back and better than ever!

The last few weeks have been busy to say the least. We have been taking part in a lot of varied learning including our debates, designers project and various types of literacy and numeracy tasks.

Within our Mearns Masters project we have been working on designing our outer skeleton. We got very technical and precise with our measurements while completing a variety of problem solving tasks. We smashed them out of the park this week and our structure is looking good!

Next step is to get our floors in so that we can begin to bring you the skyscraper of tomorrow where we aim to minimise travel pollution and create a community sustainable for all.

Furthermore, we investigated our novel “Divided City” by answering some tough questions. This has allowed us a direct insight to the ideas explored within the novel and created some great discussion work for us all to talk about.

We also changed up our debating last week, incorporating drama to help give us a new edge. We took on the roles of various characters fighting either against or for social media.

Some stellar performances led the way with a lot of heated but fair debating taking place. Progress here has been exceptional and this is something we plan to continue just as soon as we are all back!

See you soon!

Back In Action

Welcome back to weekly blogs folks! We have eagerly been waiting to share exactly what we have been up to these past few weeks and now we can finally show you.

First things first, we have been further developing our ideas for Mearns Masters this week through editing our original ideas with annotations and more developed decisions so that we could delve deeper into the design process. We have attached a few photos of these designs which allow you to see our thought processes mapped out both visually and in writing!

Here is one idea that takes into account the surroundings. Hydro powered future anyone?

Stay tuned to see all of our ideas being combined in the coming weeks!

Oh! Did we mention that we have also been furthering our debating skills this week!

Instead of classroom debates this week, we have set up pairs and trios to delve deeper into specific interests of ours. We have been working in our pairs and trios to find factual evidence on our chosen debate topics to further build our arguments and plan for persuasive writing projects.

We are also really enjoying the topic and it is helping us consider one another’s opinions with care, respect and intrigue!

See you next week!
