CP NEWS – February Edition

What a great start to 2024 we have had, it was wonderful to have all our families back after the Winter Break and welcome some new ones to join our CP Family.

Parents Interviews

Parent’s meetings will be set up for all non-preschool children this month. This will give the families of our 2 year old children and ante-pre a chance to link in with your child’s keyworker gaining updates on all the progress they have secured during their time with us and see/hear some of the fantastic things they have been getting up to.  These will take place on week commencing 26th February. Appointments are made on a first come, first served basis with, so please ensure you get back to us as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Transition to School

As a staff team we will be reviewing our transition process this year, looking to enhance this experience for our children and their families. We have linked in with teachers in Primary 1 and our Educational psychologist to identify  additional areas of focus.

Please feel free to share any ideas or things you would link us to consider when putting together this years programme.

Bookbug Family Sessions

Our Bookbug family sessions are back with our first one kicking off this evening… We hope you have your singing voices at the ready!

Due to demand we will be running these sessions on a monthly basis, keep your eyes peeled to ensure your spaces are booked.

BOOT ROOM a.k.a. SANTA’S GROTTO

Unfortunately the last storm sent our boot room back to the north pole to be with Santa!!

As you will all be aware the weather at the moment is everchanging it is therefore more important than ever that all our children have the appropriate clothing provided to allow them to continue to access the outdoors as freely as safely possible. We have a rail of gloves, coats, hats, scarfs and jumpers that have been left please take the time to have a look to either reclaim or rehome.

FEBRUARY MID TERM (INSERVICE)

Our centre will remain open as normal on Monday 12th & Tuesday 13th of February. Staff training is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 14th of February therefore we will be closed to our children on this day. Reopening again at 8am on Thursday 15th of February. A full breakdown of centre closure dates can be found at EYC Closure Dates 2023/2024 – Colquhoun Park Early Years Centre (glowscotland.org.uk)

Bookbug session – October 23

Our October family Bookbug session was a hit!

Our children and families enjoyed the songs, rhymes and stories that we explored and had fabulous singing voices!!

Our theme this month was “mini beasts” as the children have taken a real interest in the bugs they have been finding in our planters the the garden. We had an “Incey Wincey spider” that climbed up our guttering pipe then slide all the way down again, and sleeping butterflies that flew gracefully once they had wakened.

We shared a lovely story about some ants with cold bottoms…and to finish our session we had everyone’s favourite Bookbug resource….the Lycra! Those cheeky wiggly worms were bouncing off the Lycra and flying all over our playroom.

We are so thrilled that we can have our families in our centre and share our songs and stories with them…their feedback lets us know how much they enjoyed it!

“It was nice to get a chance to come into the nursery, and get a taste of the type of activities the children usually participate in. Laura was engaging and made the session fun! It was nice to see a mix of reading and “audience participation” :)”

“It was well organised. Not too big a group. Laura has a great connection with the children”

Bookbug session – September 23

We had our very first family Bookbug session in centre a few weeks ago, and so much fun was had by all. This was a fabulous experience allowing our families to explore and have fun with songs, rhymes and stories in centre, and a great opportunity for us to get to know our extended families too. Here are some of the lovely comments from our families that attended:

“Really enjoyed it Laura done a great job and good being involved in my child’s learning environment”
We had a great time seeing how (our child) interacted with the session. It was well run and engaging. Which is challenging with toddlers!”

Our sessions are planned to support the learning being delivered in centre that is driven by our children’s interests. This months session was food themed as this supported our “Living things” learning spark, where we explored how healthy foods help us to grow.

Look at how much fun we had!
