GIRFEC principles and values

Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC) is based on children’s rights and its principles reflect the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

It is for all children and young people because it is impossible to predict if or when they might need support. GIRFEC also respects parents’ rights under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

The GIRFEC approach:

  • is child-focused – it ensures the child or young person – and their family – is at the centre of decision-making and the support available to them.
  • is based on an understanding of the wellbeing of a child in their current situation – it takes into consideration the wider influences on a child or young person and their developmental needs when thinking about their wellbeing, so that the right support can be offered
  • is based on tackling needs early – it aims to ensure needs are identified as early as possible to avoid bigger concerns or problems developing
  • requires joined-up working – it is about children, young people, parents, and the services they need working together in a coordinated way to meet the specific needs and improve their wellbeing

Welcome

Hi Everyone,

We are very excited to invite you to the launch of our new Colquhoun Park EYC blog!

Our vision is to create an accessible space for all our families to connect, gain support, share ideas and come together as a community.

Your child’s well-being and happiness is at the core of everything we do here at Colquhoun Park, and we know that this starts at home. We will use this space to share some of our knowledge with you on different aspects of your child’s developmental stages, what to expect and how to support some of the more ‘challenging’ times!

Westerton Care Home

In December 2020 we established an intergenerational link with our local care home at Westerton. Some of our preschool children began their connection with local residents by making some personal Christmas cards made with love and care. As a result, we have built the foundations of a strong relationship and have recently taken a walk to visit our friends at their window whilst adhering to safety regulations to prioritise everyone’s wellbeing. In the future, we hope to continue our correspondence and have our fingers crossed for more personal interactions.

Saying ‘hello’ to our new friends a Westerton Care Home.
The touch of hope <3
