SLC Christmas Fayre 2024!

Join us for a morning of festive fun at out annual SLC Christmas Fayre! This year, our fayre will be held within the SLC department of the Robert Burns Academy on Wednesday 11th December between 10.30am and 12.30pm. For an entry donation of £2, we welcome you to join us for a delicious hot drink and a tasty treat. Try your luck at our bottle stall, tombola or raffle where you could win some amazing prizes. Kick off your Christmas shopping by purchasing some beautiful crafts and hand-made gifts lovingly created by our very own young people in the SLC.

Halloween Event – October 2024

SLC Parents Evening – Tuesday 30th April 2024

In a change to the previous, this year’s parents evening will follow a different format. On Tuesday 30th April 2024, we are holding our own SLC parents evening dedicated solely to parents and carers of RBA SLC pupils. You will be able to book a 10 minute slot with your child’s key teacher to discuss their progress over the academic year and see some of their work. 

The SLC parents evening will run from 4 to 6pm. Refreshments will be served in the department. Parents and carers will be contacted in due course by key teachers to arrange appointments for those able to attend.    

Those pupils who also attend mainstream subjects will of course continue to be invited to mainstream parents’ evenings in the usual way.  

 

Art trip to the Dick Institute – 5th March 2024

On Tuesday 5th March a group of SLC pupils went on a fantastic art trip to the Dick Institute in Kilmarnock where they learned all about the work of contemporary artist Cornelia Parker. Pupils got the opportunity to see round the exhibition and take part in three different workshops led by professional artists.

Workshop 1 was the light studio where pupils got to experiment with light boxes and create art using glassware and collage. Workshop 2 focused on observational drawing of the artists work and in workshop 3 pupils were shown how to make her very own cyanotype prints. 

 

SLC Christmas Fayre – 7th December 2023

Our annual SLC Christmas Fayre went down a treat! Everyone worked so hard getting everything ready and making some beautiful crafts to sell. Over £1200 was raised on the day and this will be put into the SLC Enterprise fund to allow us to hold more fantastic events. 

SLC Halloween Bake Sale – Oct 2023

The senior Enterprise group organised a very successful bake sale today for everyone in the SLC. They baked lots of tasty treats and made some spooky decorations. They also prepared a Halloween lucky dip box in which you could win some great prizes.
