What is Rights Respecting Schools?
The SLC is a Rights Respecting Centre! This means that we place a lot of importance on ensuring that children’s rights are embedded in our culture and everyday practice. We are working towards a Unicef Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA). This award recognises achievement in putting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) at the heart of a school’s practice to improve wellbeing and support all children and young people to realise their potential.
More information about the award can be found on the Rights Respecting Schools website: http://www.unicef.org.uk/rights-respecting-schools
In the SLC we have been learning about the importance of rights during our Nurture lessons and each month we have been focusing on a ‘Right of the Month’ to learn about in more detail. You can find out more about the activities we have been doing for this in the ‘Right of the Month’ section of our web page. Learning about our rights in SLC reminds us of the importance of treating one another with kindness, tolerance and respect, and of recognising and celebrating each other’s differences.
Each week Key Teachers in the SLC nominate their Rights Respecting Pupil of the Week from their class. This award is given to pupils who have been working really hard and taking their right to education seriously, or to pupils who have consistently demonstrated kindness, and respect for the rights of others. Find out who our Rights Respecting Pupils of the Week are by checking the year group news sections of our webpage.
