Literacy

The pupils have been exploring features of a newspaper article this week.  They then used this knowledge to write their own newspaper article based on an event that happened in their ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ class novel.

Numeracy

All pupils have been learning to solve addition problems using the ‘formal method’ this week.  Additionally, the pupils explored symmetry with Miss Higgins.

Across the Curriculum

During their rugby session, P5/6  were playing mini games of rugby. The main focus for the lesson was spatial awareness and effective passing. The pupils had opportunities to play against all the teams and demonstrated  good team work and sportsmanship throughout all games.

P5/6 pupils also created some beautiful artwork for ‘Remembrance Day’.

Happy Halloween from P5/6!

The pupils have enjoyed participating in lots of Halloween themed activities today.

This has involved dookin’ for apples, going on a Halloween scavenger hunt and much more!

A big well done to Primary 5/6 for a fantastic first term!

We have enjoyed learning new things in literacy and numeracy as well as across the curriculum.

Every pupil in P5/6 have earned a well deserved break and I look forward to another great term after the holidays!

Literacy

During literacy this week, we have been writing mainly about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as we have been making predictions and using visualisation to create pictures of all the characters after reading chapters of the book. We have also been learning about similes.

Numeracy

In maths we have been learning about pie charts and tally marks.  We have been creating pie charts and tally charts using the information we have gathered.

Across the Curriculum:

P5/6 had our first John Muir day  on Wednesday.  We had so much fun hanging out with friends on walks, cleaning our community and making nature mobiles. We are so exited to have our next one whenever we can go outside and spend time with our houses.

Literacy

In literacy we have been learning to spell our common words. We have also been learning to write poems. Pupils chose to write acrostic, rhyming or narrative poems.

Numeracy

In numeracy we were learning to understand information from bar graphs. We also hosted a numeracy open morning to showcase our learning on place value.

We have been learning about where chocolate comes from and how it is made. We have also been learning about the Fairtrade foundation.

Literacy

In literacy we have been learning our ‘qu’ spelling words and a little bit about charlie and the chocolate factory. We have been using visualisation  and inference to explore characters in the text . We also made our own Charlie Buckets’ and used a thesaurus to improve our adjectives to describe him.

Numeracy

In numeracy we have had fun learning to partition whole numbers and decimals. We have also been learning to read pictographs .

Across the curriculum

We have been doing a lot of art this week including  creating and making perspective landscape art with water colour paint and more.

We have had a great week in P5/6.

Literacy

In literacy we have been learning to  use conjunctions in our descriptive writing. We have also been learning how to use adjectives in our writing. We made characters that own a sweet shop.

Numeracy

In numeracy we have been learning how to partition numbers to 100,000. We have also been learning how to use decimals in maths. We have been learning how to multiply the 2 and 3 times table .

Across the Curriculum

We have been learning all about chocolate and how it was made. We have been making our own chocolate wrappers for a company of our choice and we had so much fun doing that. We have also done some  art about chocolate bars .

From Eilidh and Harry

P5/6 have been exploring their rights and responsibilities this week. The pupils were able to discuss and select the three most important rights they felt were relevant to our classroom. They then agreed on the  responsibilities that both adults and pupils have to make sure are respected and were able to incorporate this into our fruit themed charter!
