This week we have been busy getting prepared for the Christmas Fayre.

We had a chance to work with ‘air dry’ clay to make Christmas themed pins.

We had to work very carefully with acrylic paint and very fine brushes to paint our designs once the clay had dried.

Next week, we will begin preparing our ‘Candy Cane’ scented play dough. We can’t wait!

Thank you to everyone that presented their ‘Big Talks’ this week.

We heard some fantastic presentations about all sorts of animals. There was a lot of hard work put into the presentations and we presented with confidence and enthusiasm.

We still have a few talks to be presented and look forward to hearing them next week.

Today we had a fantastic time participating in ‘Lantern Making’ with Catrine Community Council.

We were joined by Sorn Primary  to build our lanterns. We had a brilliant time and can’t wait to see our lovely lanterns on display at ‘Make Catrine Sparkle’.

It was lovely to see so many of you on Wednesday at our Literacy Open morning. P4/5 loved talking our adults through our task maps and showing off our novel study work.

Take a look at some of snaps from the day!

This week we also created some lovely landscape art. We focused on perspective and learned about ‘horizon lines’ and ‘disappearing points’ to create some cool effects!

This week we continued our ‘Artist of the Week’ study. We teamed up with P3/4 to discover more about the very famous artist Vincent Van Gogh.

We learned about a type of art called still life and were inspired by one of his most famous works ‘Sunflowers’.

We used oil pastels to create our own beautiful pieces of art.

Our art will be on display for you to have a look at during our literacy open morning on Wednesday next week!

This week we also finished up our novel study of ‘The Twits’.

P4/5 and Mrs Govans managed to trick Miss Mclean by turning our classroom upside down! She thought that our class had been visited by Muggle-Wump and we found it very funny!

We have learned so much about the 6 comprehension strategies throughout this study and have really enjoyed the book. Look out for our written reviews!

This week we celebrated Halloween in Primary 4/5.

We had a spooky day filled with lots of Halloween themed activities. We enjoyed working in mixed groupings to complete comprehension activities based on a spooky text.

We also enjoyed creating Halloween themed problem solving tasks and challenging each other.

In the afternoon, we joined up with P3/4 and had an awesome time. We had a spider origami making station (taught by our very talented Coral!), Frankenstein Art, Halloween doodles, some party games and a delicious snack.

Take a look at some snaps from our day.

Primary 4/5 were feeling well rested and ready to go after our October holiday.

This week we began our ‘Artist of The Week’ block, where we will focus on a different artist each week.

This week we studied the style of Russian artist Kandinsky.

We were able to describe his style of art, known as ‘abstract’ art and have a go at recreating one of his famous works.

We also continued our study of Kandinsky later in the week. We used ICT to research more about him and then sorted our findings into relevant sub-headings.

This is a useful skill that we will continue to develop as we begin to look at different types of report writing this term! 🙂

Recycled Rockets 🚀

This week we had the chance to use a range of ‘junk’ materials to complete our model rocket challenge. We have been learning about space travel and took the opportunity to design and construct our own model rockets.

First, we sourced materials and created our plan. When it came to constructing our designs, many of us had to adapt and change our plans when we came across problems.

We can’t quite believe it is the end of term 1. What a fabulous, busy and productive term it has been.    ✅😎

As part of P.E we have been developing skills needed in the game of tennis.
We have been working on our speed, balance and coordination.

Over a series of lessons, we have developed our confidence using the rackets and lots of us have perfected our ‘Handshake Grip’.

This week, we put some of our skills to good use and tried to complete a ‘rally’ with our partner.
