Week beginning 4th March

In maths this week we have been looking at time and measure. For our measure lesson this week we measured how much our beanstalks had grown. We also made predictions about how much we think they will grow and what might help them grow better.

We have been looking at Easter this week with Miss Clark and we learned about how Jesus died because everyone was jealous of him. We also learned that he got buried in the tomb and then he magically disappeared. – ‘That is why we roll Easter eggs’ – Ivy

Primary 3/4 teamed up with P4/5 to complete our Roald Dahl scavenger hunt for World Book Day. We found this really tricky but had a ball. There was lots of other fun activities planned including a special visit from Mrs Schendel who read a lovely story to us in the afternoon.

Miss Caughie thought that we deserved a short brain break and we picked ‘The Floor is Lava’.

Week beginning 19th February

We are starting to round up our narrative writing and have started to plan for our assessment. We had so really good ideas and it is clear that we have been taking things on board.

“We learned lots of division this week and we were drawing circles on and dots to share them equally. We also looked at fact families.  ” – Logan

“Since we have been looking at castles, we recreated the Hogwarts castle as part of our art lesson this week.” – Callum

Primary 3/4 really look forward to our reading champions group on a Wednesday. It is clear we are able to use our knowledge of different comprehension strategies outwith the class.

A short week

It has been a super short and quick week for us…

We really enjoyed doing some valentines crafts.

All of us also worked really hard on division by grouping. Using the counters really helped us.

Miss Caughie was super impressed with our ideas this week as we are getting better at using what we have learned to improve our writing.

Week beginning 29th January

We have finally finished our castle in the open area. We made some furniture for it.  We also made crowns and shields.

In maths we started a new measure topic. We made some posters to show what we already know. We also did a class challenge which involved us getting in a line from tallest to smallest. Using cubes, we started to estimate the length of objects in our classroom. Paige even managed to guess that her pencil was 7 cubes long.

We did some super work on alliterations for Literacy. Our rotations were games on the chromebooks, worksheets in the clearboards and building alliteration walls. We were all really on task.

It was a real delight getting to watch the Scots Verse winners. We loved listening to the poems performed fabulously.

Our focus for HWB this week was working as a team and the benefits from this. After reading a book and discussing issues, we worked as a team to get the hula hoop from one end of the chain to the other without breaking it.

It has been a longggg January filled with lots of learning and we are so looking forward to a long weekend next week.

Week Beginning 18th January

It has been super exciting in our class this week as we have started painting boxes so we can build our castle for out in the open area.  We were learning all about castles and identifying different parts of them.  We also discussed a coat of arms and we even designed our own one.

“This week in maths we were looking at multiplication. We were making groups of.” – Ayla

P3/4 enjoyed sorting skittles to gather and present data as one of our maths rotations along with other fun activities.

As we are now professionals at the Canadian Barn Dance and the Gay Gordons, we decided to move on to a new one which is the Virginia Reel. It is a challenging one but we are giving it our best shot.

We have also started using some new strategies in our class in order to help regulate our emotions. These are called wiggling toes and fingers and square breathing.

Our Final Week

We are all so ready for a break in P3/4. We have all worked incredibly hard this term and a well deserved holiday is just around the corner for us…

This week we have loved taking part in Christmas activities. We got to design a special box to put our gifts from Miss Caughie and Mrs McCaig. We absolutely loved watching the dress rehearsal and the final performance of the Nativity and some of us were even in it which made it that bit more special.

Our highlight of the week was our Christmas party. We danced all afternoon to some Christmas music and took part in lots of games which really made us work up quite a thirst.

Here are some pictures from our party…

The run up to Christmas

IMG_5203It has been a very hectic week in Primary 3/4. We spent a lot of time getting prepared for our Christmas fayre which we all put so much work into. All of our items that we made turned out amazing and we’re not surprised that they sold very quickly.

We have also been practising some social dancing for our Christmas party next week.  Our favourite is the Canadian Barn dance…
