Homework W.B 27.9.21
I hope everyone has had a lovely weekend.
P2 are continuing to consolidate their knowledge of their phonemes we have been looking at. The phonemes we will focus on this week are: ee, oo, ck, ai, oy, oa and qu. I am finding in class that the children are good at reading phoneme and tricky words but they are sometimes struggling with spelling them which is something we will be focusing on in class.
P3 are revisiting the split phonemes a-e, u-e and the phoneme ea.
It is the Sum Dog Maths Week Contest so I would encourage all children to participate in this for their homework this week.
Outdoor Learning
Yesterday for our Outdoor Learning afternoon we made smelly cocktails and went on a colour hunt. We had to make either the yuckiest smelling mixture or the nicest smelling mixture using things we could find in the garden. We smelled everyone’s creation and spoke about why they smelled differently. We then went around the garden with a sticky label and had to stick as many different colours from nature onto our label.
Outdoor Afternoon
Tomorrow for our outdoor afternoon we will be going on a colour hunt and making smelly potions with mud and plants. It is saying that rain is possible in the afternoon so appropriate outdoor clothing would be great. Children will be given time before we go outside to get changed if they bring in a change of clothes.
Minibeast Hunt
Last Wednesday for our outdoor afternoon we went hunting for minibeasts in the garden. We found lots and enjoyed looking at them up closely before safely releasing them back into their habitat.
Munch for Macmillan
If you have a look on the main blog page you will see a post about Munch for Macmillan. This Friday it is hoped that every class will go outside for a big picnic at 11:30 (weather dependent – if wet we will have it in the class) instead of having a Macmillan Coffee Morning.
If children could wear something green or something with green on it (don’t buy something new) and bring an extra snack to have on Friday. It would be greatly appreciated if a donation could be made to the school’s Macmillan fundraising page: https://dc.thyngs.net/8055/Experience?code=BUU004637248&time=09%2f16%2f2021+14%3a38%3a12.768028&appUserID=47abfb9e-d14b-4649-8584-1e9400a74957&thyngDetailID=3250891&valid=5a6av9EmPD5ihu9t6O0ISLUtfvO1uYNlWmH8pYztTnZoMoNKomKgiBktGxbzoR2OuPPEysaHwg0XkH11IZzddA%3d%3d&goalType=DONATION_AND_GIFTAID&meta=#!/
Homework W/B 20th September
I hope everyone had a lovely September weekend. I know it is a shorter week so please don’t worry too much about homework but below is some suggestions for this week.
P2 children are consolidating their knowledge of the phonemes we have been looking at so far so please find their word list below with previous phonemes. Children could come up with their own words to practise, looking at the phonemes: sh, ch, th, ng, wh and ph.
P3 children are revisiting the split phonemes they learned in P2 so their phonemes this week are: i-e, o-e and e-e.
In numeracy children have been exploring rounding so they could have a go at this rocket rounding game on Topmarks: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/rocket-rounding
Every child has been allocated a book on Bug Club. As we are starting our class novel of The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark in class this week we will not be focusing as much on comprehension of their Bug Club books in class.
Rubies – Flips and Spins
Sapphires – Zip and Zap and the Thing
Diamonds – Shadows in the Sun
RSPB Wild Challenge
A reminder about our outdoor afternoon tomorrow afternoon. We are going on a minibeast hunt for our next challenge. If children could please bring a change of clothes to school if you do not want them to wear their school clothes. They can get changed before we head out. The weather is looking dry so hopefully we won’t be getting very muddy.
More numeracy work
We have been demonstrating our understanding of place value and numbers to 100 and numbers to 1000 this week. (Miss Kinnaird must get better at taking more photos)
RSPB Wild Challenge
We had lots of fun in the sunshine making our bird feeders for our first Wild Challenge. We were very careful when we were threading the food onto the wire for the birds. We then found a great spot in the garden for the birds to enjoy them.
