P5 Health and Wellbeing

Health and Wellbeing

This term our  health and wellbeing focus will be  centred around pupils emotional health.

Some children can get anxious over the littlest things and small worries can grow into anxiety. To help children discuss and support each other we are using an excellent book to stimulate and develop conversations  and activities with all pupils, in a child friendly manner.  The book, “What to do when you worry too much,”  is available online and costs about £10,  if any parent feels it would help to support their own child at home.

Walt DisneyTopic P5i

Children are loving the start of our new topic on Walt Disney, both about the man himself and his legacy, the Disney Corporation.

Today we looked at cartoon animation and made flip books to show the basic process.

As part of their learning, each pupil has been tasked with researching a specific  Disney film / character. The list of films is attached and each pupil knows which one has been allocated to them. This task was discussed fully with the class today and some were so eager they wanted to start right away, but there is no rush. Research notes and pencil drawing to be handed in on                      Monday 11th November.

What we are looking for:

A head drawing of the main character.                                                        Bullet points to highlight details about the character and film.  For example:

what was film about

when was film made,

how it was made,

how much did it cost,

who wrote the story,

how  were characters chosen

how long did film take to make

whose voices were used for main characters…

In general, anything that might be of interest to the class about their particular film.

P5i Meet the Teacher and Bug Club update

The children and I are looking forward to our STEM challenge afternoon and hope as many parents as possible can come along, not only to Meet the Teacher and visit our new classroom, but also to see the children in action as they work in small groups to meet the challenge of …

Dear All,

What a busy few weeks we have had. Children are loving our freshly decorated classroom and are looking forward to seeing the school all finished.

Those of you who have watched The King and I, will know the signature song from the film;  and that’s what we have been doing these past few weeks –   ‘Getting to know You’.

We have been very active in the gym hall and the classroom and children have also been very thoughtful and creative. Our walls are filling up nicely with some lovely examples of their work and our classroom now looks as though it belongs to the children. (And no, not because it’s messy!)

If you are able to come along to our open afternoon later this month, I hope you will take time to view their artwork and discuss their ideas.

For homework this week children have been asked to compile details  about themselves so that we can write our autobiographies next week. I am really looking forward to reading them all.

Please watch this space for photos of your children working happily, constructively and creatively in P5i.

Welcome to P5

What a lovely start to our week. Children were very smart in their school uniforms and seemed eager to get back into their school routines.

Just a reminder that P.E. days in P5 are

P5i and P5T -TUESDAY and FRIDAY,                                                                    P5K TUESDAY AND THURSDAY

therefore all children will require their kit as of tomorrow.

In line with EAC policy, children must remove all jewellery before taking part in any P.E. activity, and be able to remove their own earrings.
