PC Macdonald paid a visit to primary 5 to discuss cyber bullying. The children enjoyed the talk and showcased very good knowledge of staying safe online. As a bonus some of the kids had a shot of PC Macdonald’s kit.

Primary 5M have been coding using the application Scratch. We have created a background and sprites. We then edited the sprites to create an a sound for each one.
Primary 5M made use of the fantastic weather to continue to develop our understanding of this week’s phoneme.
P5M were delighted to have an input on coding and app development today. The visit to P5M was down to Gemma Davidson winning the school’s app design competition. A huge congratulations to Gemma, who’s app, Bee ‘appy, is available to download on the App Store and android play store.
P5M had the opportunity to test out the maths games they had created for homework. The games were excellently put together and consisted of different calculations of varying difficulty. All the kids loved playing the games. A big well done to everyone who completed this homework task!
As a class we have looked at the science of sound. As part of our decade topic we had an input on the history of the telephone. So far we’ve created our own cup phones and megaphones which has helped us explore how sound moves. Even though the weather was freezing, we managed outside to use our megaphones. P5M doesn’t believe in that old proverb “Children should be seen and not heard!”
I will be running a lunch time football club for any Primary 5 pupil who would like to take part. Until further notice it will run on a Thursday lunch time from approximately 12:50 until 13:15. Due to the expected numbers, the football will work on a rotational basis, with 2 classes taking part one week and the remaining 2 classes taking part in the following week.
The schedule will run as follows:
Week A: P5M and P5I
Week B: P5 N/D and P5E
Next Thursday (17th) will be week A.
Pupils should have appropriate indoor shoes, shorts and t-shirt.
Many Thanks
Mr MacLeod

They saved the best until last! Our rescheduled trip to Dundonald Castle took place last Thursday. The kids had the chance to meet a viking, a knight and a professional falconer! They even managed to have a go at all the activities themselves. The staff at Dundonald Castle were full of praise for the pupils, a credit to Onthank Primary School. Well done P5M!
Primary 5M took advantage of no pens day Wednesday to explore active spelling. The class used coloured clay to create 3D spelling words. All pupils participated and enjoyed creating words rather than writing them down!
