We have purchased Sumdog, and our school will be using it to help your child with their learning.
What is Sumdog?
Sumdog is an online learning tool which provides personalised maths practice that children love. It adapts questions to each child, using engaging games to build their confidence, and it’s been shown to accelerate progress.
The work is ready – your child just needs to log in
Your child’s teacher may set focused work on topics they’ve learned, which will pop up when they log in. If the teacher hasn’t set any work – no problem! Sumdog automatically chooses the topic for your child, based on an initial diagnostic test which has been completed in school. We ask that children are not provided answers to this, as it automatically adjusts questions based on their answers.
How Sumdog will be used to aid learning and teaching at Ochiltree Primary
At Ochiltree Primary, Sumdog will be used as an assessment tool to inform next steps. It will be used to set specific tasks to be used in small groups based on the learning taking place. Homework will also be provided using set tasks to reinforce the learning taking place in school. Particiaption in authority wide competitions will also be encouraged.
Get started now
Sumdog can be accessed on a computer, mobile or tablet. Go to learn.sumdog.com or download the free Sumdog app which is available on Apple, Android or Amazon. You can also help your child log in by scanning their QR code which will be sent home with them today, along with their individual log in details.
As part of this week’s P5-7 assembly PC Shirkie was able to deliver a talk about internet safety and the risks of adults posing as children on some of the favourite platforms.
With some children having 100s of friends, PC Shirkie reminded pupils that they should only be adding people they actually know as a way to keep themselves safe and not to give out any identifying information .
I know the school, parents and the police all work had to keep our children safe as they try and navigate the digital world . A link to CEOP is on our website which provides more information and support if you have any concerns.
Please see the app for our Sway to this week’s achievement assembly.

We will be celebrating World Book Day 2026 on Thursday 5th March.
Pupils may come to school dressed as their favourite book character if they wish, or bring an accessory. We encourage pupils, where possible, to get creative – there is no need to buy a new costume for this occasion. Children can also bring their favourite book to school to share.
Costume Swap – If your child has any costumes they have outgrown and wish to donate, they can do so prior to World Book Day.
Breakfast Book Day – On the morning of Thursday 5th March, pupils are invited to a special breakfast book club. Toast and juice will be served from 8:30am with stories being shared.
Thank you
To help promote reading for enjoyment across the school, Mrs Meek and the Rocket Readers leadership group have been running a Break Time Book Club. All pupils are welcome on a Wednesday at playtime.

We look forward to hosting our next achievement assembly on Friday 6th March.
If your child has celebrated any achievements out-with school e.g. earned a swimming badge, learned to ride their bike, gained badges at a hobby etc., then they are able to bring in such items to share at this special assembly.
We look forward to celebrating the success of our pupils!

Please note that Thursday 5th March 2026 will be the last Church Lunch of the winter season.
Lunches will start back up again in the autumn.
Thank you to Ochiltree Parish Church for hosting some of our pupils each Thursday.

As a change to the usual PE schedule, please note that Primary 1/2 pupils will be taking part in PE on Tuesday 24th February instead of Thursday this week.
Please ensure that your child has their PE kit with them tomorrow.
Apologies for the short notice.

Parents / carers who have returned their time-slot preference letters have been allocated a date and time for their meetings. We have tried to accomodate requests as best as possible.
Please look out for time-slot confirmation slips being sent home in school bags this afternoon.
If you have not already done so, and would like to meet with Miss Smith regarding your child’s progress, please return the tear-off slip to the letter issued Friday 20th February as soon as possible, or call into the school office.
Please note that a strict timeable is being operated on the days/evenings of the meetings, and time-slots will last no longer than 10 minutes duration.
Thank you
Presenting the Blogger Kids new logo.

The ovens at our catering facility are currently out of service, so from Monday 16th February until further notice, menus offered to pupils will be amended to the selections listed below.
Our catering manager will request that ParentPay be updated to reflect only the available options, but should you come to make your child’s lunch bookings and the hot options and baked potatoes are still listed (except for Thursday), please do not select these as they will not be provided.
Please make your bookings for soup and sandwiches and second choices via ParentPay as usual to ensure the catering team have the correct numbers for lunches. Any alternative diets / allergies will be catered for.
We apologies for any inconvenience this may cause, but please contact the school on 01290 700351 if you have any queries.
