Scottish Government Free Bus Travel Scheme

Free bus travel is available to all pupils aged 5 and over from 31 January 2022 and can be accessed via the National Entitlement Card.  We have been working with Customer Services as parents have a choice of applying for a new card via the school system or they can go directly to https://getyournec.scot/nec/.  If they go through the NEC website,  parents will require to validate both their identity and that of their child.

The other option is for them to apply for a National Entitlement Card  / Kidz Kard via the school.  This option assumes that both the parent’s and child’s identity has been validated and simplifies the process the parents. Please go to:

NEC Application Form 1 for pupils aged 5 to 10 years old

NEC Application Form 2 for pupils aged 11 to 15 years old

Due to the current COVID mitigations we will only accept application forms from pupils who require to undertake essential travel at this time, but we will leave the forms open on school website/app to allow parents to apply at a time that is suitable for them.  All forms will be processed when the mitigations are eased and we are able to travel freely.

Expression of Interest P7 Trips 2022

Our Ref:PL/ES

22nd February 2022

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Expression of Interest –P7 Overnight Stay – Galloway Activity Centre, Loch Ken or

2 Individual Day Trips.

I am in the process of making enquiries about a residential visit to Galloway Activity Centre, Loch Ken, from Thursday 26th to Friday 27th May 2022. The cost would be around £175 per child and can be paid in instalments, with the final amount being due 2 weeks before the trip. The trip would be available to all children in P7 this session. To be able to cost this visit more accurately, I would need to have an estimate number of children wishing to attend.

Alternatively, a trip to Braehead Snow Centre and Climbing Zone as well as a trip to The Garage in Kilmarnock for a Go Kart and Bowling Session has been considered. The cost for both of these days would be around £95 per pupil.

If there are insufficient numbers the cost of all trips may become prohibitive and the school may have to cancel the trips.

Please discuss both of the options with your child and register your interest below and return by Thursday 24th February 2022.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Fiona J M Black

Changes from Wednesday 16th February

Changes to start and finish times  as from Wednesday 16th February 2022

Following updated guidance on the easing of mitigations please note the following:

  • Start times – all children should arrive between 8.50am and 9am.  They should line up as usual in their class lines.  Mrs McCafferty will be on duty at the school gate.
  • Finish time – all children will be dismissed in class groups at 2.55pm.  Bus children will be dismissed at 2.50pm as usual.

To avoid congestion at the gate can we ask that you move away from the school entrance as soon as you have collected your child.  Thank you for your continued support, it is much appreciated.

As we are unable to have all classes in the hall at one time we are maintaining staggered lunch breaks and also  interval times.

Please note

P1-4 will have their lunch break from 12.15pm to 1pm
P5-7 will have their lunch break from 12.45pm to 1.30pm.

We hope in the future to be able to move to one interval and one lunch break.

Free school meals now on the menu for all P5 pupils

Free school meals are now on the menu for all P5 pupils throughout East Ayrshire, thanks to the Scottish Government’s universal free school meals initiative.

Like all children from P1 to P4, P5s will also now be offered a delicious and nutritious two-course meal. The menus, which run on a three weekly cycle, include organic, local and seasonal produce and there are meat-free days each week.

Menu choices

Each year,  our Catering Services consult with parents, children and young people and holds menu development sessions – this makes sure that the menus are tailored to the needs and requirements of our children and young people.

All main meals are served with two fresh seasonal vegetables and a piece of fruit and children can choose meals like Cajun chicken pasta, premium pork sausages with creamy mashed potato, ¼ pounder veg burger with potato wedges or macaroni. And there is always homemade soup on offer.

Food Intolerance

If your child has food intolerances, your school’s Catering Manager will be happy to speak to you about all the choices that are available.

What about P6 and 7?

We’ll have more news about Free School Meals for P6 and P7 pupils later in the year.
