LITERACY 2A

Reading

Read for enjoyment, choose something that interests you. Whether that is an article in a magazine, a book or an online article about the latest phone, online game or sport. Share what you have read with someone in your house.

Discuss settings, characters and main events.  Stop at different points within a text and predict what you think will happen next.

Discuss similar experiences you may have had with the character/s in the story.

Create true, false, can’t tell statements about a text and test someone at home.

Use question words like what, when, where, why, how to ask questions about the texts you have read.

Writing

Make a choice from the grid below for writing. Remember to use interesting vocabulary, punctuate your writing and think of who your audience might be. You want to keep your readers interested!

This year we have worked on description bubbles which would help with setting the scene texts, using amazing adjectives to describe where place a story takes place.  We have done recount writing which is retelling an event.  At the moment, we are learning how to write an explanation text on topics such as “What Causes a Tsunami?” “What Causes Global Warming?” etc.  Personal writing and imaginative writing are fun genres to practise.
