Reading is so important to do with your child. Here are a few games and activities you can do with your child after reading.

  • Act it Out:
When reading together, have your child act out parts of the story, use different voices for characters, or add sound effects to make the experience more engaging and fun.

  • Discussion:
Talk about the book, asking questions like “What do you think will happen next?” or “Why do you think the character did that?” to encourage comprehension.

  • Join in:
Encourage your child to join in with reading familiar phrases or entire sentences to build their confidence.

Word & Rhyme Games

  • I Spy:
Play “I spy” using words or letters to help your child practice phonemic awareness.
  • Rhyme Games:
Play games like “Into the Pot,” where you add rhyming words (e.g., hat, cat, bat) into a imaginary pot.
  • Start from the End:
Say a word and have your child find a new word that starts with the last sound of your word, for example, saying “top” and they respond with “pen”.
