Maths Homework
All pupils in the school have once again been issued with a maths task to be completed at home.
Last term we were delighted with the response to these activities and loved to see that lots of family members got involved in completing them together. I will be reporting back to National Numeracy this week and I’m so excited to show off all the amazing work and positive comments from the scrapbooks.
The activities are designed to be fun and relate to real life. Here are some comments we received:
“Had good fun doing this one.”
“We had lots of fun running around the house looking for all the 3D shapes, there is a lot. It’s a long time since I really looked at objects and tried to work out the 3D and 2D shapes.”
“This is an interesting example as it allows (my child) to start to understand the application of numbers in a real world context.”
“I did a good job.”
“We had fun using puppies to do maths.” (No animals were harmed in the process lol!)
If you haven’t tried one of the activities yet, please give one a go and let us know in the comments box on the sheet how you got on. Please contact me or your child’s teacher if you have any questions. Also keep an eye on your child’s class blog for some examples which might help to give you some ideas.
Here are some examples of the super work that was done last term.
Good luck and have fun!

Reminder
Please be aware that the Council does not have insurance cover for loss, damage or theft for any personal electronic equipment/gadgets, scooters, bicycles etc. It is recommended that if pupils are taking any personal electronic gadgets/equipment to school then the parent / guardian should ensure that they have adequate insurance in place for these. It may be that their Household Insurance policy would extend to cover items outside the home. The parent/guardian should check this with their insurer.
We would also encourage that if your child brings their bicycle or scooter to school that they also bring a suitable chain/padlock for security reasons.
If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Thank you.

Great Start to Term 3
What a wonderful first whole week back in Term 3! It’s been very busy with pupils getting stuck straight into our whole school Scotland Topic and all classes making the most of the mild weather by going out for village walks.
We are looking forward to hearing our pupils reciting their Scots Poems (that they are learning) and look out for future fundraising events from our Primary 7’s as they raise money for their leavers hoodies.
Remember to check your child’s class blog every Friday to see what they’ve been up to during the week.

Free school meals now on the menu for all P5 pupils
Free school meals are now on the menu for all P5 pupils throughout East Ayrshire, thanks to the Scottish Government’s universal free school meals initiative.
Like all children from P1 to P4, P5s will also now be offered a delicious and nutritious two-course meal. The menus, which run on a three weekly cycle, include organic, local and seasonal produce and there are meat-free days each week.
Menu choices
Each year, our Catering Services consult with parents, children and young people and holds menu development sessions – this makes sure that the menus are tailored to the needs and requirements of our children and young people.
All main meals are served with two fresh seasonal vegetables and a piece of fruit and children can choose meals like Cajun chicken pasta, premium pork sausages with creamy mashed potato, ¼ pounder veg burger with potato wedges or macaroni. And there is always homemade soup on offer.
Food Intolerance
If your child has food intolerances, your school’s Catering Manager will be happy to speak to you about all the choices that are available.
What about P6 and 7?
We’ll have more news about Free School Meals for P6 and P7 pupils later in the year.
Thank you
The staff and pupils of Catrine Primary School would like to thank Graham Fullarton who covered the post of school Janitor from September 2021 until 10 January 2022. Graham was a valued member of staff and was a fantastic support to the school during these very unsettled times.

National Numeracy Scrapbooks
I have spent the last couple of days looking through all the children’s maths scrapbooks that have been completed at home and I wanted to say a great big well done to all the children and their families who have put so much effort into completing the tasks. Our families have shown great imagination and creativity and I have loved seeing mums, dads, grandparents, siblings and aunties all getting involved.
It has been great to read the comments and hear that, above all, you have been having lots of fun. The comments have also shown that families have enjoyed relating maths to real life.
We look forward to continuing to work with National Numeracy in the new year and hopefully we will have some more ‘maths blethers’ where we can support each other in building confidence and positive mindsets in completing maths activities.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.
Mrs Schendel

Arty Antonia in P5/6 bagged herself a huge chocolate hamper after winning a competition. Antonia won first place in the ‘Lost Elf’ poster competition run by Shimmer and Shine home furnishings shop in Cumnock. She had to help some elves find their buddy who was last seen in the Rudolph Forest. Antonia’s colourful poster was picked from more than 50 entries as the winner. Kacey in P2 also created a show-stopping design and was lucky enough to earn third place.
Well done Antonia and Kacey.
