Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO)
Our new Junior Road Safety Officers began their work today with a visit to Kilmarnock. Harper and Lyle, both from P3, worked with other JRSOs from across Ayrshire to explore ideas of how they can help the rest of the school be safe on the road. In their workshops they found safe places to cross the road, they made a poster about The Green Cross Code and identified road signs. They also enjoyed a bit of drama where they had to act out vehicles you might see on the road. Look out for competitions and projects on road safety throughout the year.

Here they are with a poster that will get the nursery involved too.

Well done Harper and Lyle, you were super stars today!

Ruby Reward Winners 19.09.24
Well done to our Ruby Reward winners this week for being excellent pupils in our dinner hall.

September Home Circles
The whole school worked together in their new Home Circles for the first time this year, and what a wonderful job our P7 pupils did with their younger house members.
We completed a ‘getting to know you’ activity where everyone talked about their favourite things, ranging from Star Wars to Sea Cadets to football to pizza!
Then each Home Circle answered our Big Question based on our school Values –
C is for Community. What is a community? Which communities are we a part of?
Check out their answers below …

East Ayrshire’s Children and Young People’s Climate Conference 2024
We were delighted to be invited to this year’s Climate Conference to share all of the amazing work the school has done around the natural environment. Lucy and Ellie represented Catrine and presented to schools from across the authority, elected members and the Head of Education. They delivered a fantastic presentation that showcased all of the work done in relation to The Clean Green Award and The John Muir Award. A huge well done to the girls, as well as every other pupil and the wider parent/carer community who helped make our days a huge success.
Click the link to see some pictures of the girls in action.

Catrine PS is Clean and Green!
Catrine PS is delighted to have been awarded an Eco-Schools Green Flag award by ‘Keep Scotland Beautiful’.
After an intensive audit, we were awarded our flag because
- we have pupils from every class represented in our Eco Committee
- we have regular whole school and community litter picks
- our Clean Up Crews are doing a great job of improving our school playground and environment
- we support biodiversity in our school grounds by making bird feeders and bird houses
- we have regular clothes Swap Shops for school uniform, Hallowe’en costumes and Christmas jumpers/party clothes
- we have Junior Road Safety Officers who regularly highlight the importance of safe parking on our School Streets areas
Our Green Flags are proudly displayed in our main playground and our main entrance, as highlighted here by Ellie, Dalton and Olly.
We have also been asked to present at the EAC Climate Conference next week at the Grange Academy – look out for an update next week.

Ruby Reward Winners
Well done to our Ruby Reward winners this week for being excellent pupils in our dinner hall.

School Streets
Catrine PS is proud to be a School Streets area and, to keep our pupils safe, we have parking restrictions in place around our school streets at both drop-off and pick-up times.
Between 8.45-9.15am and 2.45-3.15pm the streets around our school should be free from all traffic, apart from residents, to ensure our pupils and wider school community can enter and leave our school safely.
We would appreciate your ongoing support in this matter.
