Whiteflat – Winning House Party

Our Whiteflat pupils enjoyed a brilliant House Reward Party at the Games Hall this afternoon.  Accompanied by Mrs Ferguson, Mrs Watt, Mrs Goudie and Miss Brown our pupils had fun on the bouncy castle, inflatable slide, earth ball, football station and arts and craft activities.

Whiteflat achieved the most house points this session due to their lovely manners, hard working attitudes, helpfulness and kindness and the best lines.  Well done to Captain Sophie for leading such a great team!

Special thanks to the Games Hall Crew – Tommy, Karen and Leeanne – for making our winners party such a success!

Prizegiving

It was lovely welcoming our P7 family and friends to our Prizegiving this morning, and great to be able to celebrate another successful year at Catrine PS.

Please click on the links below to see the lists of Class Prize Winners and Individual Prize Winners.

Ayrbank won the Sports Trophy and Whiteflat were the Winning House, so all Whiteflat pupils will be invited to a House Reward Party on the afternoon of Monday 27th June at the Games Hall – details to follow.

Sports Day in the sunshine

What a brilliant Sports Day we had this morning in the glorious sunshine!
Thanks to everyone who came along to support our wee superstars, and a special thanks to all family and friends who participated in our Parents Races.
Huge thanks to Robert MacKenzie for setting up Riverside Park for us, and to Catrine Amateurs Football Club for donating bottles of water for every pupil. Also to Karen, Ashley and Skye for being our line judges – not an easy job!
All of our pupils represented their classes and houses very well, and we’ll find out who our Sports Champions and Sports House Trophy winners are at Prizegiving on Thursday.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.  Mrs Govans

P7 Transition Visit to the Robert Burns Academy

F.A.O P7 Parents/carers from The Robert Burns Academy

We are looking forward to seeing the new S1s next week and hope they are excited about their visit!

During the induction days teaching staff and senior pupils will be on hand to ensure that they are supervised and supported at all times.

They will need to bring with them next week:

  • A schoolbag and stationery
  • A note of their new PLP and practical class (eg. 1A1- 1P3)
  • Their username and password for logging on to the computers, this is the same one used in the primary school
  • A pair of trainers for P.E.
  • A snack for interval
  • A free school lunch will be available, although you may wish to bring your own packed lunch.

Our school cafeteria has kindly agreed to provide a free school meal for any pupil who would like to sample what’s on offer, although you may wish to bring your own packed lunch. Please note that our new S1 will have a designated area to eat lunch as a year group and will not be allowed to leave this area at interval or lunch during their two day visit.

    Kind regards

    P McGurn
    Depute Head Teacher

Sports Day – update

We are still planning to go ahead with our Sports Day tomorrow at 10.30am at Riverside Park.  However, the weather forecast is looking a bit dodgy so a final decision will be made TOMORROW AT 9.00AM.  We will notify you via GLOW and APP if we are going for it or having to cancel our Sports Day due to wet weather.

If we have to cancel our Sports Day tomorrow, our reserve day is Monday 20th June at 10.30am at Riverside Park.

Fingers crossed for a dry day – we’re all organised but can’t control the weather!

Trophy time!

Huge thanks to Talbot superstar, and former Catrine PS pupil, Craig McCracken for visiting the school and ECC today with the Scottish Junior Cup.  Our pupils were delighted to pose for photos with the impressive silverware and had loads of questions for Craig.

Auchinleck lassies Mrs Ferguson and Mrs Watt were first in to get their hands on the trophy!

Thanks again, Craig – and well done on another victory!!

Catrine PS Football Team

Catrine PS Football Team recently took part in the EAC Small Schools Football Festival at the Robert Burns Academy pitches.

We played 3 matches – and won all three!!  Thanks to all who came along to support the team – it was much appreciated.

Special thanks to former pupil Josh Suitters who has been coaching our team this term – he’s obviously doing a great job!

Well done to Calvin (C), Sonny, Declan, Keir, Robbie, Ryan, Bailey, Jayden, Finlay and Cooper for representing our school so well.

Walk to School Week

It’s National Walk to School Week next week, beginning Monday 16th May.  Our Junior Road Safety Officers in P4 have come up with a different theme for each day for our PS and ECC children – we look forward to seeing everyone taking part throughout the week.

We hope that you will take part in the Walk to School Week.  If you come to the PS or ECC by car, why not Park & Stride?

This is a great time to remind everyone that the area around our ECC and PS is a School Streets area and is traffic controlled between 8.30-9.15am and 2.30-3.15pm to allow our children to arrive and leave safely.  Unfortunately, the rules are not always being followed and children continue to be dropped off and picked up by cars outside our school, which is a major health and safety concern for all of our pupils.

Next week’s themes are ….

Mixed-up Monday: wear your jumper back to front

Team up Tuesday- walk to school with a friend or family member

Wild Wednesday – wear your hair in a wild or crazy style

Think about it Thursday – can you think of any ways that we can improve our community?

Freestyle Friday – Wear your own clothes to school.

Thank you, from Primary 4 Junior Road Safety Officers

Catrine PS Art Champions!

Every class at Catrine PS entered into the Primary School Art Competition at last Saturday’s Catrine Show.  The theme for the artwork was ‘The Platinum Jubilee’.

We are delighted to announce that five of our pupils were winners!!

P1-P3 – 1st – Brooke P3

P1-P3 – 2nd – Logan B P1

P1-P3 – 3rd – Cole P2

P4-P5 – Lennox P4

P6-P7 – Sophie P7

Well done to our Art Superstars!!! 🙂

Goodbye and Good Luck!

All the pupils and staff at Catrine Primary School would like to say goodbye and good luck to Mrs McDicken, who has been our Senior Clerical Assistant for 28 years!

We would like to thank her for her many years of dedicated service to the pupils and community of Catrine, and wish her all the best in her new role at Ochiltree PS.

Talking and Listening Assessment Homework

All pupils have been issued with their first ‘Big Talk’ homework of the session.  The assessment criteria for their personal presentations can  be found on their class GLOW blog pages – these will help pupils and parents/carers to know what is expected at each level.

Each class has a different focus for their talk and some tips to help them get organised have been highlighted by their teacher.

Pupils should practise their talk at home as often as possible and use a timer to help. They may want to use notes or prompt cards to help them stay on track.

All talks will be assessed using the school’s Talking & Listening criteria, which you can see by clicking on the link below.  Talking and Listening skills are developed throughout our Literacy programme and it’s important that pupils are encouraged and supported to prepare, practise and deliver their talk so thank you in advance for working with your child to get their talk ready.

Talks should be ready to be present the week beginning Monday 29th November – please visit your child’s class GLOW blog for more information.

Thank you.  Mrs Govans
