The Rights of the Child

Hi everyone,

For those who don’t know me my name is Rena and I, with the assistance of staff,  parents and children this year,  will be working on the Rights of the Child. Within the ECC  we will explore a range of articles from the UNCRC. As a centre we are aiming to achieve our bronze Rights Respecting Schools award before moving onto silver and of course (fingers crossed) one day GOLD 🙂

Each month we will concentrate on a new “Right” that reflects our children’s needs. Within the ECC the children and staff will gather evidence which will be documented in a floor book around how we ensure each of our children become more aware of their rights and how we help to support them in experiencing them. Parents will be asked to contribute their views on what they think we do well, and perhaps offer ideas as to what we may be able to do better. Within the centre there will also be a wall display where the children’s monthly Right will be displayed.

This month we will be starting with Article 24

“You have the right to adequate health care, clean water and nutritious food.

We would love for you to answer 4 very short questions in the FORM above. These should only take a few minutes to complete.

Thank you in advance

Family Support

Here at Catrine ECC we are constantly looking for ways to support children and families not only in the centre but whilst at home too.

Between August and December we had numerous daily chats, settling in meetings for new starts, progress meetings for returning children and Team Around the Family (TAF) meetings with those who work in partnership with other agencies such as Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists, Health Visitor etc.

During these conversations and through observations made within the centre we wanted to offer opportunities to try best support families to achieve some of these developmental milestones.

Please follow the link below to book in or out to each of the sessions according to what you feel would be of benefit.

Catrine ECC in the Spotlight

Catrine ECC’s Depute Manager, Alana Speirs, delivered a wonderful presentation today to an audience of over 90 EAC colleagues, including Headteachers and Heads of ECC from across the authority, the Senior Education Managers and the Head of Education at the Council Chambers in London Road in Kilmarnock.

She was highlighting the educational journey of the ECC which led to them earning national recognition – Scotland’s first Digital Learning ECC accreditation.

Alana detailed the structured programme led by Sherrie Devlin, ELCP, and talked about the drive, professionalism and commitment of all ECC staff members in working towards this whole ECC accreditation.

Alana and Sherrie are now working alongside Education Scotland colleagues to review the Digital Literacy programme of learning to ensure that the Early Years curriculum is well-structured, challenging and innovative.              #TeamCatrine leading the way 🙂

(apologies for the poor photo quality – I was too busy beaming with pride to take better ones!)
