Easter Bonnet Challenge

Easter home link – Can you make an Easter bonnet at home with your child? Any material can be used; please do not feel that you need to go out and buy anything.

This is an opportunity for you and your child to develop your creativity skills together. The children will show off their creations at our Easter bonnet parade as we walk around the village.

Can all bonnets please be in by Monday 28th March?

Here are some ideas.

Musical instruments

Can you help add to our music area?  We are looking for any sort of musical instruments, (authentic or toy), that you may have and have no use for.

.

The children have really enjoyed performing on our new stage area. They created their own band called The Twinkle Stars and have been showing off their rock star moves.We have been listening to different styles and cultures of music.  A violinist played us some live music today here in the centre.

Does anyone have any hidden musical talents they would like to share with us?

Who had the Catrine ECC EGG FACTOR 2021 ?????

A huge “Thank You” to everyone for their outstanding efforts into their EGGS FACTOR designs. They were all truly amazing.

We couldn’t pick just one winner so Janet ran to the Co-op for more prizes and now we have three! (And even THAT was hard!)

The Egg Factor

As an Easter challenge we were wondering if you could decorate your own egg and bring it to the ECC on Wednesday 31st March with you?  We would love to see your designs and how creative you can be.

Parents can be involved too 😊 You can design your own egg individually or to match your child’s, e.g. batman and robin. There might even be a prize for the best designed egg.

We would ask parents to encourage their children to produce as much of their own work as possible (Parent eggs can be where you showcase your talents LOL).

These will be displayed outside for everyone to see.

Here are some ideas if you wish to use any of them. We cannot wait to see how creative you can be 🙂

Celebrating Elmer

We have had lots of fun learning about Elmer. We made our own elephants out of milk cartons, we created different patterns, we collaged a large Elmer and played a colour by number game. We also learned it’s ok to be unique and discussed how Elmer looked different.

Gruffalo trail

For World book day one of the books we will be reading and learning about is ‘The Gruffalo’.

It’s one of my most favourite stories!

Yesterday I hid characters at a place we all like to go a walk and feed the ducks 🙂

Can you go on your own Gruffalo hunt and see if you can find the characters from the story?

Thursday 18th February

Hi everyone!

Here is my challenge for you this week.
Can you design your own kite ?
As the weather is cold and windy just now I thought you would all enjoy going a walk and flying a kite.

You can use paper and create your own designs. Cut out your own shapes and decorate it. Then add some string.


Or

Use a plastic bag – these can be decorated too.
With help from an adult tie the handles of the bag together and leave it long enough so you can fly it.

If you have a real kite I would love to see them too.

Go outdoors and run with your kite, it should fill with air and fly.

**children must be supervised at all times using the plastic bag **

Curriculum areas covered –

Expressive arts –  choose ways to create an image using a variety or materials.

Social studies –  Can you have a discussion about the different types of weather? Ask your child questions –
What do we need for the kite to fly?
What keeps the kite in the air?

Literacy – Can you use predictions skills and record what happens when flying your kite?
Did it work ? If not, what was stopping it?
Try this over a few days and hopefully you get a really windy day.

Monday 25th January

Celebrate Robert Burns Day with this music medley . Have your own Scottish party in the house. The BIG YINS can join in with the WEE YINS too. I have created a mix of songs for you to listen to on this special day. Can you join in with any?

Thursday 14th January

We have been loving exploring the snow and ice. We hope you have all had lots of fun outside too. Did anyone build a snowman?  I’m going to continue with the ice / outdoor theme.

If we have an icy morning can you take a paint brush or stick outside and a cup of hot water and draw me a picture?

If we get more snow can you add paint / food colouring and paint it to make it all colourful?

Go on an ice hunt and find ways to break it up.

Collect objects from your garden and freeze them inside or out if cold enough. Then explore it. Use predictions skills and investigate how to melt it, break it up and how to free the objects.

Make our own ice paint. Freeze some paint or food colouring in ice cube trays.

Science – exploring ice. Discuss the changes from water to ice. Ask your child questions – what will happen? When? How can we change it?
