Science and Art Lillies.

Liliies for observation and dissection.

Primary 7 Science and Art came together in a series of lessons looking closely at lilies and labelling the parts of flowering plant involve in reproduction. The investigations and practical activities showed learning within their Science Experiences and Outcomes of a Curriculum for Excellence.

Through carrying out practical activities and investigations, I can show how plants have benefited society.

By investigating the life cycles of plants and animals, I can recognise the different stages of their development.

By exploring the characteristics offspring inherit when living things reproduce, I can distinguish between inherited and non inherited characteristics.

Scottish Woodlands Art

As part of the Scottish Woodlands Interdisciplinary theme the children had to create a woodland collage using tissue paper. This was particularly challenging because this was a trio masterpiece, which meant teamwork as well as creativity.

Tiana, Kirsty, Arran and Ella worked as a team to create a collage woodland.

Helia, Leah and Callum worked well together.

Let’s Go Fly A Kite!

Primary 2 have been looking at old things from Granny’s suitcase. They looked at old toys and then they worked together to make paper spills which they covered in papier-mâché in order to construct kites. Each kite was unique with colourful tails. Today was quite windy so we had fun testing them out.

As part of this year’s school improvement plan, a focus for development was the Art curriculum.

The teachers have been meeting in Teacher Learning Communities and setting targets to explore and develop aspects of teaching and learning.

The pupils have then tried new ideas, explored techniques and used their artistic skills to create, design and evaluate their work and others.

We hope that over the year the school entrance gallery will show you some of the developments and improvements as well as exhibitions, card competitions and playground and classroom displays throughout the year.

Exhibition

The pupils across the school worked towards their painting targets set by their Class Teachers and practised new techniques and demonstrated their skills. The results were very professional and deserved to be exhibited for all to see.

Therefore we enlisted the help of an outside agency that specialised in art galleries to mount, frame and exhibit the pupils’ work at Parents’ Evening.

We hope you got the oppportunity to visit the gallery and we would like to thank you for your support with this project.

These pupils’ parents and carers decided to buy their art work to hang in their own galleries at home.
