If you didn’t get the opportunity to visit the school during this term please browse the images for a view of the creative and inspiring work generated by the pupils.
The pupils in Primary 3 and 3/4 shared the sights and iconic images of London. Primary 5 focused on the Olympic rings and our 2012 mascots. Primary 6 used straws to create the athletes in action and Primary 7 used Tiffany as their inspiration for their olympic value.
Kirsty and Kirky under went a transformation.#
Kirsty was all ready for her holidays to Japan our Olympic country and Kirky was a red, white and blue supported – GB all the way!
We were all geared up and ready to show our support for Team GB and welcome the torch to Killie! We headed out all together as a school community and shut up Kirkstyle for the event. The pupils waved, cheered and waited in anticipation of the torch arrival on Hurlford Road.
Cailtin made sure she had the best view and came decorated to shout hooray for the torch.
All the pupils waited in anticipation of the torch, they kept the members of the public entertained and every bus, lorry, car and taxi that went past got a cheer as they built up their steam for the procession.
Last visit to school before the holidays was all about scooter skills and parachute games. Mr Gary Seymour our Active Schools Coordinator and Mrs Diane MacKinnon Head Teacher along with Primary 6 volunteers helped the pupils float, balance, hide and run with our large parachute. The giggles said it all!
One behind the other!
Mrs Brenda Sneddon our school’s Clerical also has repsonsibility for Kerbcraft and Junior Road Safety Officers worked with our Nursery pupils to get them through their Level 1 Scooter Skills training – success as everyone passed!
Our new Primary 1 pupils have enjoyed 5 visits to Kirkstyle to start to get them familiar with the school community. Pupils in Primary 6 have visited Riccarton Nursery to play positive play games and then have helped with settling in during their visits. On one visit we were pleased to welcome Silly Jilly to zumbatonic with pupils and parents – if they were willing!
We started this project some time ago with the introduction of large concrete cylinders donated by Barhale.
The weeds grew before we could do much work but this year we started in earnest. First the pupils of Room 15 had to dig out the weeds – that was a real chore – we all got very hot and dirty.
Next the children had to plant them up. We managed to do this because MGM Garden Centre kindly donated bulbs and we ordered 2 apple trees with some of the Morrisons vouchers.
Then water and water and water……. till…
The children then decided we needed to paint the concrete and they chose to use the Olympic colours. We were able to do this at no cost because of Repaint Scotland who donate paint to projects all over Scotland.
This done one of the children pointed out we had no black ring – so the boys brought round the very large tyres from the vegetable garden and hey presto all 5 rings were there.
The icing on the cake was the arrival of the benches bought for us by the Parent Council and a little corner of garden heaven was complete… well almost.
You know we gardeners are never satisfied – so watch this space!
Thanks to funding secured by the school to support our Games Legacy for the future during the Olympic and Commonwealth games run up and events Primary 5 and Primary 5/6 pupils have already started their Judo P.E. sessions. These are being led by trainers from Cluarankwai Judo Club. The club are also encouraging the pupils to attend the after school class and we are thrilled to say the class is full and some of the pupils are keen to join the trainers at the clubs own training sessions in the future.
