Something fishy was going on in the GP Room this afternoon. A representative of Ayrshire Rivers Trust brought 100 salmon eggs for us to look after and study. Every day the pupils of Primaries 3 and 4 will study the eggs to see how they are developing. Eventually we hope to release our young alevins into the River Irvine. Wish us luck!!
On Friday the pupils visited their Home rooms for sports:
Bellsland – Blue with Mrs. L. Thom, Mrs. S. Morrison and Mrs. E. Smets
Caprington – Green with Mrs. M. Milligan, Mrs. F. Drennan, Mrs. C. McKenna and Mrs. F. McCallum.
Glencairn – Red with Mrs. A. Macmillan, Mr. S. Nutt and Miss. A. Davers.
Kaimshill – Yellow with Mrs. V. Ross, Miss. G. Boyd and Mrs. A. Kirkwood.
The pupils delivered their “Vote for me as House Captain!” speeches for the pupils in primaries 3 – 7 to decide who would be good to lead their team to victory in 2012.

The pupils will be given their official badges and announcement at Assembly in the coming weeks. They will also be attending Show Racism the Red Card event for young people being held at Kilmarnock F.C. with ex professional players and current players from the club. They will be involved in a full day of workshops, question and answer sessions and a raffle all focusing on anti racism/ anti sectarianism/ equality and respect.
This year the school decided not to hold a Health Week but to incorporate all their Health and Well Being activities into the curriculum throughout the year and also to include them in a special Olympics theme in Term 4. Therefore Mrs MacKinnon would not see the pupils for their annual Health and Well Being Assembly, so time was arranged to tackle our “Healthy Hair” theme this week. The Once a Week take a peek is a national parents campaign to beat the bugs. Its an easy to use guide to help fight back against the spread of headlice.
Headlice is a normal part of childhood – surveys among primary school children estimate that nearly as many as 1 in 10 pupils have had head lice. They are most common amongst children aged 4-11 who spend more time in close contact with each other.
The best known symptom of head lice is itching and seeing your child scratching but not everyone itches! The best way to find head lice and eradicate them is to look regularly as part of a family’s personal hygiene routine like brushing teeth and washing hands.

The Cookbook Business Team in Primary 5/6 ran a mini raffle during the Fayre:
Kieran and Jamie Kerr won a fantastic cup cake maker
Deacon Lewis, Jodi McGill and Laurie Graham all won their own cookbooks to start them off in the kitchen.
The Living Eggs project team from Primaries 3 and ¾ announced their Chicken Land winners:
Lara Fleming won a massive fluffy chick for her correct guess on “Where did the chicken cross the road?”
Ryan Lindsay won a basket full of chocolate eggs, for his 104 eggs in the basket correct guess. He was the envy of Assembly when they were presented!
The Primary 5/6 enterprise team would like to encourage all budding cooks to upload or send in their recipes for the Kirkstyle Cookbook.
The pupils had a successful day at the Fayre selling a variety of tasty soups and biscuits. Individual portions of; ready to eat Cream of Mushroom and frozen two people portions of pea and ham, lentil and leek & potato soup and the always popular Empire Biscuits prepared with the help of some Primary 1 pupils.
The pupils have added these recipes to their cook book business venture and ask that you do the same. You can upload your own recipe using the template on the website OR send your recipe to school and the managers will type it up and submit it for you.
During the Spring Fayre the business team took a couple of orders but are still on the lookout for more recipes and hopefully plenty of orders.
