Barcaple Residential Experience

Senior pupils from Portpatrick Primary School and St Joseph’s Primary School enjoyed an action-packed residential experience at Barcaple on 12 and 13 January as part of the West Rhins Partnership.

The pupils took part in a wide range of challenging and enjoyable outdoor activities, including wall climbing, orienteering, archery, abseiling, crate climbing and bushcraft. The residential offered valuable opportunities for pupils from both schools to work together, build new friendships and support one another throughout the experience.

Staff highlighted how the activities helped pupils develop important skills such as confidence, resilience, problem-solving, teamwork and effective communication, particularly as they were encouraged to step outside their comfort zones and take on new challenges.

There was also time for exploring and games, as well as the inevitable excitement that comes with staying away from home with plenty of late-night chatter ensuring that no residential would be complete without a slightly sleepless night.

The Barcaple residential was described as a hugely positive experience, helping pupils grow in confidence, independence and resilience, while creating memories that will last a lifetime.
