πŸ“š World Book Day 2025 at St. Joseph’s! 🌟

Yesterday, on 6th March, we celebrated World Book Day with a fantastic day filled with reading, creativity, and book-themed fun! Pupils had the choice to dress up as a book character, wear non-uniform, or come in school uniformβ€”whatever they felt most comfortable in. We had some brilliant costumes throughout the school!

πŸ“– Book Grab Stall – A special free book grab stall was set up by Miss Scott, giving all children the chance to choose a book to take home and keep! A big thank you to Ava G and Nanci-Rose, who helped by creating eye-catching posters for the stall.

πŸ“š Live Webinars & Storytelling – Pupils took part in exciting author webinars suited to their age groups:

  • P1-2 enjoyed a live storytelling session from the Wigtown Book Festival, featuring author Mike Nicholson reading from his brand-new book My Granny Went to Scotland and She Brought Back… πŸ“–
  • P3-4 listened to Mike Nicholson introduce his Museum Mystery Squad series, a thrilling mystery adventure! πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ
  • P5-7 attended a session on Catscape, where they learned about how to start stories, why people write, and tips for storytelling. ✍️

🎨 Activities in P1-4 – Our younger pupils had a fantastic day full of book-themed activities! They designed bookmarks, visited the book grab stall to pick a book, joined reading buddy sessions with P5-7, designed their own book covers, and even took part in a book hunt in the library! To finish the day in style, they walked the catwalk to show off their book character costumes!

πŸ“– P5-7’s Book Fun – After their Catscape webinar, they headed down to the P1-4 classroom for reading buddy sessions, helping younger pupils enjoy their books. They also got creative, drawing their favourite book covers, heroes, villains, and characters, before making sure everyone had a chance to pick a book to take home.

It was a brilliant day celebrating the joy of reading, and we loved seeing everyone so engaged, inspired, and excited about books! Well done to all pupils for making the day so special! πŸŽ‰
