World Book Day 2025 at St. Josephβs!
Yesterday, on 6th March, we celebrated World Book Day with a fantastic day filled with reading, creativity, and book-themed fun! Pupils had the choice to dress up as a book character, wear non-uniform, or come in school uniformβwhatever they felt most comfortable in. We had some brilliant costumes throughout the school!
Book Grab Stall β A special free book grab stall was set up by Miss Scott, giving all children the chance to choose a book to take home and keep! A big thank you to Ava G and Nanci-Rose, who helped by creating eye-catching posters for the stall.
Live Webinars & Storytelling β Pupils took part in exciting author webinars suited to their age groups:
- P1-2 enjoyed a live storytelling session from the Wigtown Book Festival, featuring author Mike Nicholson reading from his brand-new book My Granny Went to Scotland and She Brought Backβ¦
- P3-4 listened to Mike Nicholson introduce his Museum Mystery Squad series, a thrilling mystery adventure!
- P5-7 attended a session on Catscape, where they learned about how to start stories, why people write, and tips for storytelling.
Activities in P1-4 β Our younger pupils had a fantastic day full of book-themed activities! They designed bookmarks, visited the book grab stall to pick a book, joined reading buddy sessions with P5-7, designed their own book covers, and even took part in a book hunt in the library! To finish the day in style, they walked the catwalk to show off their book character costumes!
P5-7βs Book Fun β After their Catscape webinar, they headed down to the P1-4 classroom for reading buddy sessions, helping younger pupils enjoy their books. They also got creative, drawing their favourite book covers, heroes, villains, and characters, before making sure everyone had a chance to pick a book to take home.
It was a brilliant day celebrating the joy of reading, and we loved seeing everyone so engaged, inspired, and excited about books! Well done to all pupils for making the day so special!
