– what have we been up to?

Quality Meat, Quality Learning

This afternoon we were visited by Brogan from Quality Meat Scotland (QMS). As part of P2-4s farming focus and P5-7’s food journeys topic, Brogan came in to share with us her expect knowledge of red meat! 🐮
First of all, she told us about the three red meat animals; cows, sheep and pigs ad explained that we need their meat for protein to grow and build muscles. She explained  the journey that our red meat travels before reaching us as consumers in the supermarkets. She explained that the red meat industry employs 50,000 people in Scotland. We were really interested to hear that red meat with the ‘Scotch’ label on it in supermarkets means that the animal has been reared and processed in Scotland, while ‘Scottish’ red meat has just been processed in Scotland and the animal may have been reared in another country.

Afterwards, it was time to get chefing!! Lamb nachos with tzatziki dip- something a little different, which we were all quite excited about!🍽️ For some of the boys and girls, this was their first time trying lamb! While Brogan cooked the lamb, some fabulous assistants helped to mix the ingredients for the dip! Yum! 🙂

A huge thank you to Brogan for giving up her time to come and visit us at Leswalt! Another fabulous experience to make our topic learning come to life! 💕
