– what have we been up to?

🏰Castles Come to Kirkcolm🏰

This morning we had a lovely morning spent with the P1-3 from Leswalt as the fabulously knowledgeable Kathryn Purchase from History Alive told them every they needed to know about Castles! Over the course of this term, the lower classes in both schools have been studying Castles and learning about all things Medieval as part of their social studies topic and today was the perfect day to bring the topic alive for them and let them get to grips with the props! ⛓️🗡️🏹

Pupils learned all about the different types of Castles and where we could fine them, with some castles on cliffs, islands, up mountains or down in valleys! They learned about the different people who lived in these castles, like the lords and ladies and their servants – even the blacksmith lived there too with his forgery on hand! ⚔️

As part of it they also looked at knights and all their armour – blowing their minds when they found out that a knight, completely suited up, would have an extra 5 pounds of weight added on to them in just armour alone! 😯

The boys and girls at beautifully for this and a huge thank you to Kathryn for always making the trip down the A77 to see us and for another superb input. As you can see in the photos – the boys and girls loved it! 📸
